Tap at Produce Row Cafe, Portland 07/11/12 (Thank’s to Jessie for tracking this fantastic beer down for me !). Had first sip LBOW ! Bitter hop assualt !!! Lightly hazed amber with a thin white head which retains well. Good lacing follows. Nose is a big fuck off pine smash to the nostrils, hops, bitter grapefruit, light mango. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, pine forward, hops, a dirty great pine kick in the teeth, light mineral tones. Surprisingly medium in body for double figures ABV with soft carbonatoin leading to a bitter finish. Excellent DIPA, doesn’t come much better. Would like to try this side by side with Pliny, reckon Pliny may drop a point or two and hop Venom may well rise to the top!

On tap at the Collins Pub. ’tender was swamped on election night and spilled my first one. The aroma hit and I wanted to lick it up! Pours orange with a bit of a white head that leaves perfect concentric circles of lacing. Aroma has fresh fruit, pine, citrus and resin. Just lovely. Taste is of bitter citrus, pine and a lot of sticky resin. More and more bitter through the glass. Not very balanced, but a good example of a hop-forward NW double ipa.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours dark orange with a thin head. Aroma is caramel malt and floral piney hops. Taste is big hops with thick pine and grapefruit notes, followed by sweet light toffee flavor malts. 10% abv is well hidden - substantial but seems smaller than that. Tasty.

A pint from The Portland Bottle Shop. Pours a slight reddish color with an off white head. Strong hop smell. Taste is hoppy with a nutty aftertaste that isn’t my favorite. The smell when raising the glass to take a sip is excellent and that makes up for the aftertaste.

Thanks to GatorGuy92 for sharing this one, I think. Pours a medium orange yellow with a white head. Nose is a nice malt backbone with nice citrus hop punch. Flavor is similar with sweet malt, and big apricot and citrus. Finish lingers with citrus orchard and a bit of booze. Nice DIPA overall.

On tap at Max’s Summer Nano-fest in Tigard, at Gigantic Brewing in PDX, and other guest taps around town. This is pure delicious goodness in a glass, the beer for which God invented hops. It delivers a spicy hop wallop, yet is balanced without being sweet, bitter or revealing its high alcohol level. If it weren’t a DIPA with a high ABV, it might be the only IPA I would drink. Boneyard is brewing consistently great beers (except Girl Beer, yuck) and this is their best. I am rating it as perfect across the board as a "pole position" rating--I have simply never had a better DIPA, including Pliny, Double Jack and all the usual suspects. When, if ever, I do, or if Boneyard’s standards slip, I’ll revise the rating accordingly.

I discovered, always on tap at mainbrew.com! Next to Firestone Walker’s Double Jack, this is probably the best double IPA out there; it is a Pliny killer! Love the citrus and flower aroma and flavors. The palate is so, so smooth and you’d never know that this is a 10% abv beer at first. Boneyard does an amazing job at controlling harsh bitterness, there is nothing harsh about this beer at all, but it has all the hops you could ever want. The malts are very well balanced with a subtle toastiness that complements the high hop level. I highly recommend!

On tap at Cannon Beach Hdwe. Colour...golden-amber straw with a thick white head. Nose...citrus, stone fruit, hops and candied fruits. Palate...musty (in a good way) sweet, but not cloying, with plenty of crisp, dry hops and an unabashed piney assault on the palate without being too heavy on the IBUs.

super strong. Very hoppy, spicy floral hoppiness. Super malty but balanced. Med body and mouthfeel, creamy has serious heft. Its well crafted. Try it if you like strong IIPA
