Tasted on tap at the 12th Bistro Double IPA Festival on 2/11/2011. This double/triple IPA pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet. orange and citrus. A medium bodied Imperial India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and orange and a touch floral. Medium bitterness. Lots of residual sweetness. Nicely balanced between the malts and hops. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with some residual sweetness.

Had on-tap at Apex last Saturday (2-11). Enjoyed alongside Pliny the Younger to see if the comparison was valid. Nice tropical fruit forward nose and taste, big alcohol warming sensation lets me know to be careful, less bitterness than I expected, a touch sweeter than PtY. Very creamy beer with a slick finish. While very similar in appearance (both beers are pale gold) Notorious looks exceptional with a light amount of haze a fantastic lacing.

Growler served in a Duvel tulip. Clear dark honey with a sizeable off-white top. Excellent retention and sticky lacing. You know when the aroma hits you on the pour from two feet away you are onto something special. Bright, sweet tropical citrus notes: Pineapple, orange, guava, and pine needles. Very sweet, big bitter attack, followed by a bready, matly, mid-palate, then back to neverending waves of alpha acids. Such balance and depth. Incredible at this octane. Full body, thick-sticky texture, decent carbonation, and a perfectly balanced finish.

Clear golden color/ white head. Floral, pale malt, bready aromas. medium to full bodied with light co2. Heavy flavors of grainy, lightly sweet pale malts, with some floral hoppage--boozy finish--decent.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2011 Tap @ The BeerMongers... This beer is something else! Poured hazy, golden yellow with a thick white head. Nose of citrus and peppery spiced, resinous hops. So hoppy, so bitter, very full bodied. It was muddled out all, just intense hop flavors, alpha bitterness, earthy pine, and bread-like malts. The body had just the right amount of carbonation to not allow the hoppy flavors to be over powering. So drinkable for what it is. PtY watch the fuck out!

A golden amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, pleasant pungent floral hops, orange pulp, quite nice. In mouth, a thick resinous hoppy offering with loads of alcohol, pinhey resins, meat extract, mentol, papaya pulp. Interesting. On tap at OBF Fringe Fest Belmont Station, July 30 2011.

On tap at Belmont Station. Colour... apricot with a thick off white head. Nose... crushed hops and pine tar. Palate... decidedly cloying with loads of piney hops, sugar sirop, grapefruit rinds and a boozy finish.

Comes out of the tap a pretty clear golden amber with a typical off-white head. Aroma is EXTREMELY hoppy and evergreen with a surprising honey-sweet undertone. Drinking this beer is like drinking one of Oregon’s famous Douglas firs - it is seriously evergreen, yet has almost no bitterness and is rather sweet. Thick, smooth, mildly fizzy texture leaves an evergreen and subtly sweet finish.

On tap @ Boneyard. WOW!!! Slightly hazy yellow with a thick, pure white head. Aroma is huge and all hops; grapefruit, pine, tropical fruit, cat pee, ganja and some light bubblegum. The flavor is full of hops, bitter but not mouth numbing, the malt is just there to hold up the hops and that’s it, alcohol is completely hidden for over 12%. Medium body with average carbonation and a super clean, long, dry, bitter finish. This is the best IIPA I’ve ever had, they must have dry hopped the piss out of this thing, so much hop aroma and flavor and almost hard to believe the abv is 12%. I’ve never had Pliny the Younger but this is what I imagine it to be like, light clean base beer with just a ton of hop character. Excellent job Boneyard!!!!!

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2011 Tap @ Uber and the Parkway. Clear, orange-gold pour with a fluffy white head which persists and leaves a coarse, geographic lace. Grassy, fruity, ganja nose. Heavy body with light carbonation. Citrus (orange, lemon), pine, grass, ganja, candy sugar and/or corn syrup. Slight tartness which starts in the middle Long finish is bitter and umami. Interesting, but the high ABV is apparent and hurts drinkability for me. Moreover, the balance isn’t quite right. On further sampling at the Parkway 12/11, I think the body is better than what I had before, but the sweetness remains on the cloying sucrose side, to the point that my lips feel sticky after a few swallows, as if this was a popsicle and not a beer. Still, the amount of flavor packed into this "triple" IPA is impressive.
