3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draught at Roscoe’s Stout Summit 2/23/13. Caramel, chocolate aroma. Semi-sweet chocolate flavor. Warming effect, but not as intense as the 14% ABV would let on.

Pitch black, tan head. Nice complexity, strong roast character, great sweet/bitterness balance. 14% is completely hidden. Awesome.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black with a small tan head. Aroma is mainly chocolate, coffee and roast. Was a bit too cold when poured but when it heated up the aromas came really out. Thick mouthfeel, nice bitterness with some roast. Good stuff

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Brouwer’s a few nights ago. Pours clear dark brown, no head or lacing. Full of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, some roast and clearly present (but surprisingly well-masked) alcohol. Surprisingly thin body -- much too smooth, really, and too easy to drink. Drinks more like a 7% oatmeal stout, which I guess is cool from a novelty/brewing perspective, but really mixes the worst of both worlds. I mean -- there’s so much booze here that this is a beer that should be sipped and savored, but the mouthfeel is so smooth and light that it begs to be gulped. The body is too thin to savor, but the booze is too much to go fast. It confuses me in a way that is going to leave me ultimately unsatisfied. Not a fan of this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Imperial Bottle Shop and Taproom. Huge chocolate nose, fumes. Dark brown, creamy tan head. Big fat choco initial, with some clear phenolic notes / goes sweeter and the chocolate morphs into a thicker beast, like a liqueur / finish is substantial and doesn’t let up, some serious alc. warmth. Medium body. A bit light for the style and especially the alc. level. But very nicely done. The phenolic note is not extreme and the chocolate/roast flavors are great.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Poured from tap to growler to glass. Jet black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, cocoa, raisins, slight soy and cola. Mouthfeel is great with a medium full body and nicely balanced carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with an astringent following and an ethanol finish combined with a CO2 bite. Overall this is an absolutely fantastic brew!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
As many times as I’ve had this, I can’t believe I haven’t rated it. I guess I was too busy savouring it! Colour...totally black with a thick tan head. Nose...teeming with burnt sugar, especially burnt marshmallow and cotton candy, as well as licorice and bittersweet chocolate paste. Palate...eminently thick, chewy and viscous with huge amounts of cocoa mass, brown sugar sirop and unsulphered molasses. The burnt sugar is still present and a very dry, yet sweet oakiness exists. Licorice root abounds as does treacle and it all leads to a long, sweet, dry and coating finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Pitch black, deep cola hues, thin frothy beige head, spotty lacing.   Heavy roasted malts on the nose, smells like oatmeal, background of some alcohol but for 14% its to be expected.   Some rich dark pitted fruit as well.   Strong and rich on the tongue, heavy, roast, heavy breadiness, seems like a heavy oatmeal stout.   Otherwise warming, with a background of dark chocolate, alcohol, and dark pitted fruit.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Finish is a little ashy, sweet and heavy prune, raisin, with strong lingering roasted malts and campfire.   Sweeter than most, not terribly bitter, with heavy roasted malts and ash.   Really surprised this is 14% as its warming, but not alcoholic.   Pretty tasty!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Super dark pour with a deep brown head. Flavors of fudge, molasses, raisin, some coffee and molasses. Pretty damn good. More drinkable than dark lord IMO.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at the Livermore Saloon. It pours black with a tan head. The aroma is vanilla, mocha coffee and bourbon. VERY sweet. The flavor is thick like a milkshake with bourbon, cocoa, roasted malt and intense bitterness in the finish. A real bruiser, but fun and enjoyable.

On tap at Belmont Station. Pours a pure jet black color with a small brown head. A massive sugary dark fruit nose. The flavor is big roasted malts, huge oily fruit, sugary sweet, essence of prune. Viscous. Damn good. Boneyard lives up to the hype.
