2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
My first Boom Island beer Iíve tried. Iíve mainly avoided this brewery based on reputation. Aroma and appearance are decent enough, but the flavor profile is thin. A slightly tart off flavor which is not expected for the style. Could be infected. Somewhat drinkable, which is the only compliment I can give. Disappointing overall.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Eliís in downtown Mpls. Tulip glass. Dark brown with very little head. Toffee and caramel aroma with some roasted notes. Taste feels very mild and elements of toffee and subtle Belgian dark fruit. No real bite. Smooth. Thin which was slightly disappointing. I have had it elsewhere and itís been better. This rating is based on the current rendition Iím drinking so take that with a grain of salt.

Sampled at Northgate Liquors MN beer tasting. Brown, ESB-like. A fleeting mild roasted taste.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Draft at the brewery. The aroma is of sweet, burnt brown sugar. Drinks with an almost sour character more than a dubbel. Another thin beer and not up to name. (#5701, 8/31/2014)

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap - this is a good enough dubbel. Spicy is the main take away for me along with the malt bomb on the base.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2014 Roasty, malty yeast and perfectly balanced. Pours with a huge head, lots of caramel sweetness and some bitterness for balance. A real treat.

Burnt dark mohagony. Nose has a touch of burnt rubber and dark fruits. Weak taste some rubber, some tree fruit. Sweet finish. Interesting. Not mind blowing

750 ml bottle thanks to Skyview, nice brew, thanks Bob. Color is a deep garnet with bubbly, spiderweb lacing. Aroma shows Belgian candy syrup, plum, figs and Christmas spice.
The flavor is spot on for the style. Dark fruit and yeast upfront with a nice earthy caramel malt base. Spice and pumpernickel bread with a medium body. Soft carbonation giving a smooth, creamy texture. Solid example of the style, nice job from this brewery!
