Why would anyone name a handcrafted IPA after Thoprock, the notorious heavy metal festival in Belgium? Just how hard do the hops rock? Are they turned up to 11? Can you handle the shredding? Will it make you cast aside your clothing and dance naked in a field?

This is an interesting one. Pours a beautiful orange color with puffs of white head which retains itself well. Smell is on the malty side, with a bit of spruce-like pine notes. The taste brings out more of the hops, resinous and slightly fruity. The malt is nice, but it lacks much of the belgian character I was expecting. On the whole, nice.

Dark hazy caramel in color... Aroma of caramel, candi sugar, citrus hops... Flavor is fairly crisp, not terribly dry, light citrus hop notes, candi sugar... Okay ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4 oz. pour as part of an 8-beer flight, on tap at the brewery’s taproom. Pours a clear deep gold with an orange/red/copper glow in the light and a small amount of beige head. Sweet, resiny, syrupy smell features a pine scent. Flavors of pine, orange peel, and orange. Herbal quality to the taste. There is an unpleasant compost/vomit/chemical element to the flavor. It doesn’t taste as bad as that surely sounds, but it’s well below average for the style and for craft beers in general. Medium body. Smooth, frothy, and a bit oily in the palate.

Pours a cloudy golden color with foamy white head. Yeast, pine, grass, and citrus on the nose; all follow onto the palate. The yeast gives it a bit of chewiness for a nice mouthfeel. Finishes with some spice.

Draught at Northbound in Minneapolis. Light celery, sourish nose, with abit of honey. Medium copper color. Lacquer, harsh malt, with melds into ... not much. Thin-medium body. Thin. Not so well put together. Maybe a good start on a Belgian IPA, but there’s certainly work to be done here. There are some off flavors and the good flavors are not delineated.

Cloudy orange pour, not much head. Little hop in the nose. Bittersweet. Middle is flat malt taste. Finish is the hops trying take back control, but not quite pulling it off.

Hazy amber pour aroma of earthy yeast, light citrus. Flavour is caramel, some damp earthy yeastiness with candy sugar and fruit tones with a light to medium floral fruity bitterness.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light citrus, apple, bubblegum, faint grapefruit, and grass. It pours a hazy (bordering on cloudy) amber with a two finger orange tinged off-white head that fades to a thin film within a minute or so. There’s a good amount of webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a some light-moderate fruit and a touch of caramel. Some bubblegum notes and banana come into play in the middle. The finish has light citrus, grapefruit, and floral notes. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation.

Pours a rather cloudy golden yellow with nice, thick, lasting head. Aroma is quite heavy on the grassy side of the hops. Flavor is dominated by a very bitter, hoppy-citrus combination that almost veers a bit more towards the witbier/wheat side of things. From a company that specializes in Belgian-style ales, this maybe isn’t such a surprise. Very bitter finish to the beer. Interesting but not my favorite.
