A strange offering. Sweet nose belies an apply acidity in the mouth. Low carb, a bit watery. But, somehow the whole is a bit greater than the parts. Drinkable.

clear dark amber, scant head, sweet tart fruity aroma, slightly alcoholic, thin body, big malt flavor with lots of tartness that almost overshadows the fruity character, aged 2 years in oak

Bottle, cellared for 2 years. I guess this is a beer that probably should be drunk less than two years after pruchase, because I'd say this one went south a while ago. Color is dark amber, without much red tint to it--like the brown suede JPDIPSO mentions in his rating. The head was nice, fine and a light tan or dark creme color, but faded very quickly to a thin layer on the top of the beer. Nose is musty, cidery and pungent, as are most lambics, with hints of apples, grass, maltiness and lambic funk. The taste is astringent, with the lambic sourness offset by a vinous acidic edge. There's a bit of maltiness to this, but almost none of the hoppiness that Boon claims. This tastes to me like a poor cousin to Gueuze--less provocative. I'd skip this one in the future unless I can get it fresh to compare. I'd be interested to see what the cellaring did to it.

25 cl bottle. Light brown beer with a huge rocky white head. Aroma is really sweet with lots of light caramel and brown sugar. A hint of spiciness. Flavour is loaded with sugar… toothachingly sweet really. Light caramel/bready flavour but a very thin body. No real wildness or tartness to speak of. More of a very light-bodied dubbel. A hint of plum and light earthiness. As a light brown ale, I guess it works as a confection, but as a faro, not so much.

Bottle: Aroma is very vinuous and lightly sweet with some vinegar. Pours a transparent orangish-red with almost no head. Vinuous with some vinegar. Light vinegar and some sourness in the finish. No carbonation and a little thin. Not really impressed but knocked out another style.

Courtesy of Pailhead. Pours reddish color with no head. Aroma is all vinegar without much else going on. Flavor very bland and oxidized. Looks oily but mouthfeel is very thin and watery.

Much better than the last faro I tried, but I have a feeling that this style will never grow on me. Poured with very little carbonation and a sort of sickly amber tone. Some ped and bret in the aroma but also some sugary sweetness. The flavor has lots of maltiness (perhaps really not a lot but accentuated by the sugar?) A little more bitter than I would expect, but not enough for me. Some classic labic flavor. Ummm that’s it ...

I picked this one up as a ’one of’ in a small Belgian bottle shop. The shop keeper picked up that it was just out of date and asked me if I wanted it - no charge. Anyway keeping this in mind here goes. Deep ruby red clear under a small white head generating small delicate fine lace. Awesome aroma, chocolate, vegemite yeast, plum budding port wine and malt aroma. Soft mellow sweet yeasty port winey and chocolate start. After that it’s downhill. Virtually flat soft drink middle and watery thin sweetish light sour finish. I woudl really like to try a fresh one.
