COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Faro Boon is een bier van spontane gisting waarbij Meerts bier en Oude Lambiek gemengd worden. De lichtbruine kleur en zoetzure smaak worden bekomen door toevoeging van kandijsuiker voor het bottelen. A beer of spontaneous fermentation, made by the blending of ’Meerts’ beer and old Lambics. The light-brown colour, as well as the sweet-sour character, are due to the addition of candisyrup before bottling.

375ml bottle @ ’t Waagstuk in Antwerp. Clear dark brown colored body with a light tan head. Sweet apple, caramel and brown sugar aroma and flavor, sweet overall but it does have some mild tartness - mild prickly wood tannins, finishing with an artificial sweetener flavor. Above average for faro but not exactly stellar.

Bottle. Dark brown, red with a small beige head. Aromas are berries and bubblegum with yeast. Quite vinous. Flavours are sweet and fruity with toffee. Sugary and plummy with some citrus on the finish. OK.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with an average, frothy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is earthy and cellar with leaves, sugar, lightly tart apples, pears, and grapes with straw and meal malt. Flavor is a confused sweet and lightly tart mixture with grapes and fruity esters, sugar and a thin, dry finish. Light body, low warmth, and medium carbonation.

Pours brownish red with a white head. Smells funky with some fruity undertones. Tastes of sugar, molasses, some sour undertones. Undrinkable.

Bottle, BB 2/18/08. Poured clear reddish-amber with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma was sweet as all hell with fruity and other odd sugary notes.. somehow the sweetness muted about 95% of the underlying funk and vinegary complexity.. but some Balsamic vinegar and woody sugars remained. The flavor was almost sickeningly sweet with drier artificial sugars sticking around at the finish.. there was a nice sour berry and wet wood presence across the middle.. again, thick on the sugars at the finish. Too sweet and a bit sticky on the palate, unfortunately keeping the nice tartness and sourness in check. Meh.

Bottle at home, picked this up from Dranken Geers, near Gent, Belgium 03-03-08 Some dark candy sugar aroma waft from this brown beer that has a thin white head, I say brown but there are clearly some scarlet flashes in there. Soft damp sugar on nose but a good balance of sweet and sour in the mouth. Becomes drying at the end, but good tartness to this and also some stewed rhubarb, very good.

Bottle. Low but astonishingly lasting fluffy off-white head. Hazy dark brown body. Powerful hay like aroma with grape fruit in the background plus roasted malt with caramel. Fairly sweet lemonade flavor of fruits. Low carbonation. Sweet aftertaste.

Had at room temp in my hotel in antwerp. Notes say: Aroma is a malty flemish ale, hints of blood and biscuit. Taste is thin, touch sweet, caramel malts, some tart dark fruit, but too sweet really.

Bottle at Zythos Beer Festival 2010. Dark ruby color, few bubble head, scant lacing. Aroma of caramel and citrus. Light bodied, fairly sweet. Interesting enough, but not great.
