UPDATED: MAR 21, 2011 Bottle from Beers of Europe & Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Strong dry raspberry aroma. Dark red colour with beige head. Very dry raspberry flavour. Sour aftertaste. I like fruit beers but I prefer them to be a bit sweeter than this one.

Bottle shared by a guy named Michael at a tasting in Davis, CA. Vintage 1986. He purchased it about 10 years ago and bought it for the sheer fact that it was the most expensive beer ($15) he had ever seen. Musty, fruity, slightly astringent, woody, and dustiness present in the aroma. Light raspberry notes are also in there with good sweetness. Very complex. Murky amber body with a small light tan head. Decent carbonation after this time. Starts sweet with some tart, astringent notes in the middle. Has nice oakiness later on. There is a tasty mustiness with a little cheesiness present, too. This has lots of depth. Surprisingly, this wasn’t overly sour or tart. A fantastic treat!

Bottle.
A - Dark violet that looks somewhat like grape Kool-Aid. Average sized, foamy, soap white head with a strong purple/pink hue. Decent retention tat settles into a thin, foamy lace that congregates onto one side.
S - Tons of sweet raspberry aroma with a touch of tartness. Some funk and barnyard aroma in the background, but it isn’t very strong. Some other fruit, like apple, plum, cherry, and grape also make an appearance, but pale in comparison to the raspberry. A bit more of the funk/barnyard smell comes out on subsequent sniffs.
T - Mix of sweet and tart raspberry flavor dominates the taste. Some funky and yeast flavors come out, but they aren’t too strong. Also has a touch of fruitiness outside the raspberry, but not that strong. Some woodiness is also present.
M - Light to medium body with a healthy amount of carbonation. A bit of a spritzy feel with a bit of a puckering and drying finish.
D - Pretty drinkable sour with a lot of fruit that balances the tart and sweetness.
Notes: 2004 Vintage. This is a fairly sweet and fruit sour, but the raspberries also add a tartness as well. Some other fruit and acidic and funk aspects come out, but this is a very raspberry-centric beer. Pretty good and enjoyable beer, even if it didn’t wow me.
