4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Mangino (1027) - Mississippi, USA - AUG 11, 2006
Huge thanks to Engelsmann for hooking me up with this fine brew. BRING ON THE FUNK! Pours a slightly hazy brown/slightly purple color, small white head. Aroma is very musty, slight funk, and full of raspberry goodness. Flavor is tart and pleasantly raspberry. Almost no funk, holy cow. Perfectly sour, not medicine, just very very nice drinking. 6 years old? Who says fruit lambics cant be aged?!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 14, 2006
750-ml. bottle, 2000 vintage, shared by MrFacto. Translucent cherry brass in color with a beady white layer cast sparingly as the head. Raspberry kernels and tart, freeze dried cranberries impart the first aromatic implications, pursued by moderate vinaigrette and a breakfast danish trait to tartly envelop the nose. Sweet, tart and cyclical flavor shine broaches the palate with a big flavorful stream. Raspberry kernels spliced open for added tart complexity. Pomegranate kernels juicily bursting between the teeth. Supple carbonation and a sweet/tart justice that couldn’t be any better balanced. Kernels coronate a cyclical syrup feel with a backdoor bitterness to keep it from keeling. It’s a very tasty treat.

Pours a clear and effervescent reddish copper color, briefly topped by a quarter inch of white foam. This reduces to a ring in short order. Tart fruity and slightly cheesey aroma.
Light fresh raspberry and strawberry flavor sits on top of a tart and slightly funky brew. The finish is quite tart a lemony, with a very mild herbal hop presence. Tart acidic raspberry lingers in the aftertaste. Medium body and gentle carbonation.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 hezron (604) - Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 20, 2006
Aroma is very strong and loaded with raspberry, raspberry seeds, vanilla, wood and some funky sourness. Redish-orange ini color with a thin, white head. Amazing flavor, tons of raspberries. Balanced with a slightly sour, funkiness and caramel malt backbone. Sweet and sour at the same time. Lighter body with an almost creamy texture and a dry finish. Thanks Facto for opening this one up!

Pre-Great Taste sampling at 1FastSti’s house
I don’t remember when this one got opened but it could have been the capstone
of the night if we didn’t have some seriously amazing beers lined up for
later. As it was, I think was the second best thing opened on the night which
says something considering the lineup. This was a 2000 vintage brought by
MrFacto.
Aroma / Appearance - There is only one thing that you pick up when you
take a sniff - raspberries. However, it is not a one dimensional aroma but
more like Raspberry Tart with lots of nuances. Underneath it were strawberry,
vanilla yogurt and tartnesss. The ruby red body looked beautiful and inviting.
A brief reddish head made an appearance before settling into a thin film that
migrated around the top of the pour.
Flavor / Palate - Sour raspberries dominate the flavor, but once again
not in a one-dimensional way. It is almost as if someone had captured the
essence of fresh from the vine raspberries (seeds and all) in a liquid form.
The aftertaste is very tart with absolutely no sweetness at all. This is a
real lambic, not a sugary Lindemans. Perhaps the best lambic I have tasted,
it now forces me to seek out some of the Cantillons for comparison’s sake.

bottle@GBF 2011: dark red with a pink hue & pink head, smell is lots of sweet raspberries, slight raspberry grenadine, sweet upfront with lots of raspberries, light wood & hint of malt, followed with a slightly sour & acidic + tart aftertaste which still has some sweetness to it, barnyard aftertaste, nice, leaning a bit more towards the sweet than the traditional but a good sweet one
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Caton (160) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUL 6, 2002
This was a great beer, it didnt have the sweetness the other framboise has on the palate but the nose was of fresh sweet berries. It was very smooth with a great sourness, very refreshing, could drink this all day.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 20, 2006
Bottle shared by Matt, not sure if the heaved after this one or not. Brown with a hint of purple on the edges. Small dense off-white head. Raspberries with a noble mold aroma along with, mace, caskwood, light acid and iron. Now this is a lambic, lots of fruit with a full tart initial quiver. Nicely balanced and refreshing. Earlier Rating: 3/11/2004 Total Score: 3.8 Pink topaz color with a light pink, dense head. Wait just turned bloody brown (with lots of chunks) with the last pour. Unattended raspberry patch aroma. Light fresh raspbeery start. Mid sip dust and must come into the action. Late syrup quality or perhaps feel would be a better way to put it. Quite nice on the palate.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 4, 2005
Sampled on 6/27/03, 1995 Vintage: Pours a light pinkish copper brown color with virtually no head or carbonation. Aroma is of raspberries and sour malt. Wonderful balance in the body with the perfect amount of sweetness and sourness and a very smooth finish. Tastes like a cross between Liefmans and Lindemans. One of the best aged fruit lambics I’ve had. Earlier Rating: 1/19/2003 Total Score: 3.9 Sampled on 1/19/03, fairly recent vintage: Pours a medium red with a thin layer of white bubbly head. Has a musty, sour aroma which makes it quite true to style. The flavor is a delicate balance between sweet and sour and finishes silky smooth without a trace of alcohol. Overall, light, complex, and very enjoyable.
