Kriek Mariage Parfait is an Old Style Kriek of exceptional excellence. 400 g of wild cherries per litre are fermented together with a strong Lambic of spontaneous fermentation and aged on 6,200 litre oak foudres (large wooden casks) for 5 to 6 months. Kriek Mariage Parfait is naturally clarified and referments in the bottle. It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavours, preservatives or colourings added. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Pour slowly in a flute glass without disturbing the yeast sediment in the bottle and enjoy this epitome of traditional Lambic brewing.

375, 2007, corked and baled, opened 2015. Pours a deep opaque burgundy with bright pink edges. Pink fizzy cream on top. Bright tart pie cherry nose, showing bits of penetrating wood, bracing acidity, and soft vinegary sweetness. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Beautiful blend of piercing pie cherry tartness, lactic bite, wood, and vinegary balm on the mid-palate. Long tangy tart finish. Lovely beer.

Dark Cherry red. Smells like horsey cherry yogurt. Dry, medium acid, very low bitterness. Funky cherry yogurt. Very un-beery. As compared to the version without cherries, this is smoother. The fruit really rounds it out. Super delicious.

anstei (447) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - SEP 24, 2015
Bottle at Erzbierschof Zurich. Dark clear ruby with a beautiful foam. Slightly funky aroma, but already lots of cherries. Mouthfeel is dominated by the bubbly champagne-like carbonization, which takes away almost a bit too much of the flavour. Lots of cherries while swallowing. Not as balanced as it could be, but still an incredible brew.

Ruby red with a reddish beige head. Aroma is a huge whack of cherries. The flavor is slightly sour but mostly sweet. Some sour apples in the finish. Overall awesome.

SlackerMads (2271) - DENMARK - SEP 6, 2015
Bottle. 2011 vintage, I think the label said. Hazy dark read with a large pink head. Nose has cherries, but also a good share of funky notes; barnyard, leather, oak. Flavour is more all out on cherries, some almond and marzipan, light oak and barnyard behind it. Medium body, soft and fluffy carbonation, mild sweet and sour. Drinks below the abv.

330 Cl cc bottle from Whole Foods PM. Pours hazy magenta with 2-finger pink head. Nose is cherry, earthy, tart, lactic acidic. Tastes tart, earthy, with cherry, lactic tartness, and some slight oxidation, 2011 version.

Kriek Marriage Parfait 2012 Yields a beautiful, half finger broad, pink head, slowly collapsing into the ruby red beer, while leaving with a fizzy sound. Sheets of lacing gather at the edge of the glass, complimenting the glowing, red grape juice colored beer. Packs a good amount of funk and lemon zest, settling on top of a ripe cherry foundation, together with arid forest earth. Rusty blue cheese and old leather enhance the cherry character, as well as the tartness, while the beer doesn’t turn overly sour at all. The nose features a beautifully balanced lambic, with a very intriguing cherry complexity, mainly defined by mellow stone pith qualities, lemon peel and more earth. Highly carbonated, sprizzy beer, leaving the palate with lively bubbles. The beers medium body comes well together, while the mineral defined carbonation introduces tart funk to the palate, easily balanced by well pronounced malts. Drinks fairly easy and clean, no note of the higher abv, other than the distinct maltiness. Tastes of a bubbly minerality from the high carbonation which sets the course for tart lemon peel and cherry pulp. Cherry gets accompanied by scented wood and earthen malts, which produce an unusual toffee note during the long lasting finish, turning more prominent than the sourness itself after the swallow. Reaches its sour peak right at the middle during drinking, becomes the most funky while swallowing and turns very malty and sweet, but not cherry sweet during the finish, accompanied by a lemony minerality. Well made, very clean tasting lambic which is a bit surprising for the higher abv it packs. The finish bothers me though, it is way too malty and sweet. While it still succeds at including a lemony note during the aftertaste, the cherries fade too soon, getting replaced by dusty toffee malts.
