3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2007 bottle (well, the neck label says 2007, but the best by date is for 2028. Hmm), gifted to me the the legendary Fin. Thanks bud. Pour on this one is a cloudy red with a fizzy, soda-pop head. The aroma is a bit clammy, toe-nail funk, hay, wheat. Nice and funky, not particularly acidic. The body is thin on this one, and there is a notable, unwelcome candy sweetness in the flavor, almost Lindemans like, though not nearly as intense. The finish is short and dullish. Really lacking in the acid department. I hate to say it, but yet another dud from Boon.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this rare sour. 2008 vintage with a best by date of 10/8/28.
The beer pours a beautiful dark red color with a white head. The aroma is strong cherries but there is also some nice funk mixed in. One of the funkier smelling krieks that I have tried.
The flavor is a great mix of brett notes, barnyard funk, cherries and surprisingly, some alcohol. The tartness level is light to medium.
Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.
Very glad I got to try this beer. It definitely lived up to the hype.

2007 37.5 cl bottle at the Kulminator, shared with afrantzell and Cameron. Ruby red, huge fluffy pink head. Aroma of dust and fruit. Taste is black pepper, gun metal, dark over-ripe cherries. Not my favorite geuze.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2007 vintage, 375ml, consumed in July 2010. Courtesy 4.4-40. Pours a lightly hazy crimson to blood red color. A small, smooth blanket of pinkish-white foam forms at the head and displays good retention. Wet spots wash down the glass, returning to the body and leaving no dry lace behind. The aroma is well balanced, showing a light, dusty, bretty barrel funk over a rainbow of cherry varietals, from sweet and dark to light and acidic. Flavors follow suit, again coming across sweet-tart with fleshy dark cherry and softly tannic skins, all with a nod to aging barnyard wood and farmhouse dust. Sour acidity is there, but itís kept well in check at this age (though I expect that it would continue to funk/sour up). Medium-light in body, with minimal, smooth carbonation and a semi-dry feel, the palate concludes with a bright, acidic bite. Damn fine beer here....though itíll probably be even better in a couple of years.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2007 bottle at íT Brugs Beertje. Cloudy ruby pour with a decent sized pink head. Aroma holds tart and black cherries, along with a touch of dry hay and wheat- laid back, but beautiful. Flavor is fantastic; thick, rich, dark cherry skins, and some notes of the German delicacy Kaiserschmarn. Massages the palate, and finishes sweet. Absolutely delicious.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
So much drier and more complex than the regular kriek. Dry bretty horseblanket, leather and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium sour. Very nice.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled, 250ml at Olivers Belgisch Bier Cafe, Leiden. Rose red with pink head. Tasted in comparison with the Kasteel. More carbonated and with a cherry cordial type flavour, a little synthetic, but the cherry does show through. Pretty reasonable.
