Kriek Mariage Parfait is an Old Style Kriek of exceptional excellence. 400 g of wild cherries per litre are fermented together with a strong Lambic of spontaneous fermentation and aged on 6,200 litre oak foudres (large wooden casks) for 5 to 6 months. Kriek Mariage Parfait is naturally clarified and referments in the bottle. It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavours, preservatives or colourings added. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Pour slowly in a flute glass without disturbing the yeast sediment in the bottle and enjoy this epitome of traditional Lambic brewing.

Pours a cloudy, very dark ruby red color with golden copper edges and a one finger pinkish head that immediately settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind. Slightly funky aroma that’s bursting with intense cherry flavor. There’s some lactic acid, funky bugs, horse blanket and barnyard character but it’s really fruit forward, to the point where I’m picking up the skin and pit of the fruit. Slightly damp smelling with cobweb and ancient oak but not as intensely funky as other lambic. Mostly because of the prominent fruit. Full bodied, intensely tart and puckering with a much funkier flavor than the aroma suggests. Lots of barnyard, sour acidity and lactic funk along with damp, toasted oak and a sweet vinous fruit character. Slightly syrupy and sweet with a strong cherry/cherry juice flavor. Very organic tasting with cherry skin and juicy fruit flavor balancing out the funk and acetic acid. Again, the pit from the fruit is evident, complimenting the funk and charred oak. Subtle acetic vinegar lingering in the bone dry finish but it’s not harsh or solvent like at all with plenty of juicy cherry fruit flavor balancing things out. Not as extreme as some of the other fruit lambics that I’ve had but its a really nice Kriek that ill definitely be buying again.

Dyp rød tåkete med fingerhøyt rosa skum. Lukter fat, eik, vanilje og kirsebær. Syrlig sure kirsebær, lett sitrus sødme. Kjenner fatlagringen. Middels lang.

37.5cl bottle. Labelled as 2014. Dark red colour with a thin pinkish head. Funk, cherries, wood, earth and brett in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium smooth body. Taste is well balanced between the tart, acid, sweet and bitter notes. Dry and cherry notes towards the finish. Overall, a perfect marriage and a very good beer.

Dark red pour with nice cherry aroma. Seems real thick and cherry syrup. Lacked some of the dryness and base sourness from lambic I am used to. Still good but not great.

2012 vintage. Dark burgundy color with pink head that goes away completely after a while. Aroma is not very intense, with an underlying sweetness, caramel notes and dark cherries. Taste starts funky and fruity, quite balanced between sweet and sour. Aftertaste has a complex caramel and barnyard note. You can definitely tell that it’s an aged lambic. Body is light to medium and carbonation is in the medium range too. I think it would be a good choice for a beginners lambic because of the sweet/sour balance.
