Kriek Boon is a traditional Belgian Lambic fruit-beer. It is brewed according to the traditional Lambic style of spontaneous fermentation. Only fresh cherries (25%) are used. Kriek Boon is slightly sweet, with the surprising natural fragrance of sourcherries and almonds. With only 4% of alcohol it is a perfect summer beer.

Editor’s note: Was 5%.

Dark red color, light red little head. Medium cherry and sour aroma. Medium bodied. Sweet flavor with cherry and mild bubble gum, ends with mildly sour aftertaste which lasts.

Magenta pour with pink head. Strong cherry aroma that reminds me a lot of Jolly Ranchers. The flavor is sweet and tastes fairly artificial to me.

Draught, 4% at ZBF08. Fat cherry bubble gum aroma. Dark red colour, small creamy pink head. The flavour is quite sweet, some cherry but not too artificial. Not sour like a kriek should be, though. 5 3 5 3 10

UPDATED: APR 26, 2009 Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Clear, wine-red color. White head with a red hue. A little sour cherry-taste dominates. Delicious, sticky, but somehow balanced sweet. Fruity aftertaste. Rating: 7-4-8-4-16-3.9. (051008)

Bottle, 375ml. Vintage 2006. It pours a hazy, cherry red body with a little orange tint. White head of moderate size. The aroma has cherry, some almond, sweetness and a faint sourness. The flavor is sweeter than I remembered, with some sourness, a little almond and funky hints. The sourness isn’t as lemon-like as expected, more cherry-like. Full-bodied, almost sticky, and at the same time slightly sourish. Very mellow. I would like it to be less sweet, but it’s a nice beer anyway. Sure wouldn’t mind having access to it all the time. From a 375ml bottle. Cork explodes from the bottle and bounces off my ceiling fan. Fortunately, no spillage. Pours an opaque purply-pink color into my goblet. A rocky, dense head of pinkish foam. Lots of fine lace. Smell is sweet cherry, some funk following up and spice. Some sour barnyard aromas underneath. Taste is dominated by sweet red cherry. Some sourness follows and a bit of driness in the finish to balance out the sweeet. Some tartness and a hint of funk underneath that big sweet cherry flavor. The mouth is sticky sweet but tempered by the dry finish. A bit fizzy on the tongue. All in all a good drinking lambic. Maybe a touch sweet but enough complexity to keep it interesting.

Deep reddish color, decent head, extremely fruity aroma, as expected. Almost wine sweet in taste, not syrupy, but substantive. Has an acidic tang to it, finishes well.

This is really good lambic beer! It’s not OVERWHELMINGLY FRUITY LIKE HITTING YOU IN THE FACE WITH FAKE FRUIT EVERY SIP. To clarify, that’s how this beer is NOT. Cherries definitely dominate the flavor and aroma. And this beer has the standard pink head/red body. Really delicious though. Surpisingly good complement to the mexican food I was eating. I think I’ll go try the Framboise now. :)
