Looking for something different I decided to give this a try. It has been sitting in my cellar about six months now waiting for the right time. With the chilly weather it seemed perfect. I may be buying more of this (or something similar) in the future for rainy days.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep reddish brown body was free of sediment with a thin white head. The primary nose was cherry liquer and oak. Relaxing a bit reminded me of cherry cough drops like the type you would find in Vicks. It is simple and effective without too much tartness.
Flavor / Palate - There is not much complexity to this beer but that is fine with me. It consists mainly of dry tart cherries with a woody aftertaste. The taste fades fast but in the process dries out the throat. It’s not as spectacular as 3F or Cantillon but at the same time it is a little more affordable. This could be a nice ’test’ lambic if you haven’t tried any before.
BoBoChamp (323), Gent, Belgium Jul 20, 2008 38cl, brew anno 2006, from De Hopduvel Gent, easy to drink, clear, good head, little sweet, good balance Ober (219), Best, Netherlands Jul 16, 2008 I had the 2006 version. A hazy dark red beer, with a rose creamy head, with big bubbles. The aroma of strong cerries, with some sweetness and sour. The taste of course fruits/cherries, some sweet and in the back some sourness. I think a very nice kriek. SaintMatty (335), Tallinn, Estonia Jul 10, 2008 375ml Bottle (Õllesummer 2008,Tallinn) . Dark red in colour with a pink head. Fruity and slightly tart aroma with the cherry dominating along with some almonds. Fairly sweet taste with a mild tart element. Sweet but still one to take seriously. PilsnerPeter (1324), Flushing, New York, USA Jun 27, 2008 Bottle: Pours a very nice looking cloudy purple with a purplish head. Nice appearance. Sweet aroma. Has some candied cherries and honey glazed almonds, along with a papery oxidized note. Body is crisp and fairly light. Has a natural cherry presence, pleasantly sweet. Has some dust and musty notes of oxidation, along with a papery note. Touch of marzipan in the sweetness with a finish of candied almond. A very simple Lambic, but very tasty and easy to finish the bottle quickly. plovmand (420), Helsinge, Denmark Jun 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours pinkish red with a medium light pink head. Heavy aroma of cherry fruit and acid. Sour taste of cherry and wood. Very drinkable.
