Kriek Boon is a traditional Belgian Lambic fruit-beer. It is brewed according to the traditional Lambic style of spontaneous fermentation. Only fresh cherries (25%) are used. Kriek Boon is slightly sweet, with the surprising natural fragrance of sourcherries and almonds. With only 4% of alcohol it is a perfect summer beer.

Editor’s note: Was 5%.

Isn’t hard to rate a lambic? I’d take one over just about any other style, but I’ll rate this one against others, so the score is a bit low. It’s a complex beer from top to bottom--reddish in the glass, turning to amber in the shallows; whitish head that recalls sodas. Sour cherry nose, but is that a hint of leathery malt? On the palate, the cherry is the first, tart note, then the lambic rushes in, sour and lip smacking, but it finishes gently with definite raisin-y malt notes. I mark it down for being slightly understated to my palate.

DWF; Bottle 375 ml., 2014, from local marked. Pours small, red, with a frothy fading light red head. Nose is moderate to heavy, cherries, almonds, and light sour. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a somewhat lasting cherries finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft. Me like cherries..

Clear red beer, standard carbonation with a small head. The aroma is soo fruity, a lot of cranberry, red berry, and raspberry notes, not too much from malt or hops. The taste is the expected for a fruit beer, but in here the hops play a nice roll making everything work. At the end the sour flavor come into, making a good balance with the hop bitterness.

Candy cherry, sweet, sugar syrup. Simple taste, cherry flavouring, soft sour. Not very fine, very little complexity. Nice looks though. (25cl bottle from Dekoninck)

Clear red color with no head. Sweet cherry aroma, taste is slightly more sour, cherry cake. Watery, average carb. Drinkable.

Bottle. Deep red with a medium sized pink head. Cherries, sugar and almonds in the nose. Flavour has sweet cherry sauce, almonds, marzipan. Pretty sugary. Cherry candy. Light/medium body, lively carbonation, light sourness. Too sweet for me, the sugar makes the cherries seem artificial and candy like.

tap: deep ruby colour with a small pink head............can detect cherry but over whelming old hockey bag odour, wet leather .....I guess that’s the barnyard thing .......taste is refreshing and not overly sweet ....the cherries come through and a definite tartness to the finish..... I won’t be drinking this all night but I’m certainly going to drink it again

Bottle. Red color with tiny pink head. Aroma of cherry juice, too much sweetness in taste.

2014. Thanks to the guy who brought these & the CR crew. Reddish body. Unappealing aroma, even for the style, cherries, medicinal notes and heavy vinagre. The taste is much fresher though, cherries, light tartness. Good but not more than that. The smell is the only thing off about this.

Restrained tart fruit aroma in a crimson colored pour. Full balanced tart/sweet taste with a crisp clean finish. Makes a good introduction to the world of sour beer (by adding a bit of sweetness).
