Kriek Boon is a traditional Belgian Lambic fruit-beer. It is brewed according to the traditional Lambic style of spontaneous fermentation. Only fresh cherries (25%) are used. Kriek Boon is slightly sweet, with the surprising natural fragrance of sourcherries and almonds. With only 4% of alcohol it is a perfect summer beer.

Editor’s note: Was 5%.

Dark red rose with thin pink head, slight turbidity. Nose is dominant cherry, with some oak. There is both a moderate sweetness and sourness, nicely balanced, and no bitterness. The body is light with a lively carbonation. First proper kriek I’ve tried, so no real basis for comparison. Enjoyed the dominant cherry character, but the lambic character could be a bit stronger for me. My next one will be aged another year. 375mL corked and caged bottle. Crop 2008, BB 12/05/2013

På fat @ Akkurat. Mörk röd färg. Stor doft av körsbär. Stor syrlig smak av körsbär. Bra som efterrätt.

Backlog. Tried it both bottled and on tap a number of times. It’s one of those standard krieks, good for beginners.

We’ll this has an aroma that is certainly more on the sour funky side of things, unfortunately, the flavor is quite sweet, almost to a lined an level, which is far too juch, makes me loathe to try the others from boon. Bummer.

Entirely too sweet for my liking. Would have liked to see the sour cherry come through more. As it warmed there was a slight oakiness in the nose and flavor.

750 ml cork bottle “2011 Crop” bought at Valentino Chocolatier in Wan Chai.

Looks: Clear black cherry - currant colour with no yeast sediments.half finger head with off-purple foam which fades in 20 seconds; Moderate sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: fragrant sour cherry with light yoghurt, red wine, strong funk, oak, sugar, tannic and malt

Taste: Very light sweet taste of light malt, with sour cherry fresh, blackcurrant, yoghurt, light vinegar, wood barrel, funk, high carbo, light tannic, hint of red wine, faint lemon and very light grass

Body: Close to light body. Watery palate.

Mouth feel: Both the lambic tartness and black cherry tastes seems to be on the light side, might have been neutralized by the sugar, yet overall taste is nice minimal sweetness with a bit of vinegar notes. Strong oak barrel presence you can taste it right away. Overall taste is neat and on a bit of muted side. Hmm…

Hoppiness / Tannic: weak grassy hops typical for fruit lambic, Fairly light in tannic. No bitterness slight tannic finish.

After Taste: Wet after taste. Very easy to mouth.

Comments: After Boon Framboise, I expected just as much for this one. It came up short for thin body, rather simple aroma, and rather weak lambic and cherry taste. However, it shows it maturity with strong oak nose and taste, good balance of sweet and sour, at the expense of richness and variety. Good, but not great.

Little bottle with dinner. Pours out a nice ruby color topped with a pink head. Nose is all cherry sweetness and a touch of sour bite. Taste is sweet cherries a little tiny pucker on the end. A easy drinker for sure.

Pours a deep ruby red with a short lived pink head. Smells of ripe morellos, slight tartness, hints of oak and some artificial cherry candy smell. The taste is also dominated by morellos, cherry stones, some malt, light tartness with traces of oak in the aftertaste. A really nice easy drinking Kriek, great to find this in Norwegian grocary stores.
