Bottle, 375ml. 2004 vintage. It’s quite clear in the glass, deep golden in color and with a small, dense and firm off-white head. The aroma is rather mellow, guess the age has something to do with that. It’s still funky though, barnyard, yellow apples, some lemon hints, earth and cellar and an almost spiced note in the far back. Even something reminscent of a centuries old timber shed with its dust and old wood. It’s medium to full bodied, rather effervescent and tart. There’s some flavor of sweet fruit, but it’s dry anyway. Yellow apples, barnyard, leather and dirt floor in the flavor, all lasting for a good while, even though the carbonation does what it can to clean the palate. A lovely beer indeed, although not as refreshing as it is when fresher. Fun having an old one every now and then though. 151109

[2011] 375ml bottle. Hazy golden orange with a foamy white head. Flavors are candied lemon, apple, sweet breadiness, tropical fruits, alcohol and oak with funky and mineral notes. Light to medium body, lively carbonation, slick texture.

0.375 l bottle from Firma Bier, 2011 vintage, bottled in September 2014 (just over a year old). Clear, golden yellow with a huge, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Medium funky, sourish-fruity aroma of lemon, green apples, white grapes and oak. Medium funky, sourish-fruity taste of lemon, green apples, white grapes and leather, followed by a long, medium tart, oaky and minimally peppery finish. Thin to medium body, astringent and effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Well-balanced but quite tame gueuze, resulting in a bit of understatement. Not as citrusy as other examples but therefore closer to a sparkling wine. Good!

2010 - drank in 2015. Smells of barn and grapefruit. Very complex. Grapefruit again, a bit of maltiness, a slight tough of bitterness.

Bottle - Hazy golden colour, medium size, collapsing white head. Fruity nose, green apples, peach, grapes, some earthy and barnyard tone. Taste is mostly sour with some sweet malty hints. Low hop bitterness. Light to medium body, average carbonation, clean dry finish with lingering sourness. Well balanced, complex but refreshing Geuze, highly recommended for the style lovers.

2011 vintage. Orange color, slightly hazy, with an off-white head. Aroma has farmhouse funk but also a slight caramel / butter funk. Taste starts somehow sweet, getting the caramel notes from the aroma. Gets more sour and acetic in the middle but balances out in the finish, having also some bitterness. Body is medium with a good amount of carbonation and a slight alcohol presence. Really interesting gueuze, I think the age has something to do with the slightly sweet caramel character.

Excellent aroma, apples, oranges & pears. Some light wood in the background. Lovely bright granny smith apples on the palate with some well balanced tartness to go with it. I’m a fan. Good carbonation to go with it. Overall, this by far my favourite lambic/sour beer from the Boon Brewery. Well worth a purchase if you see it.

2010 vintage from Tanakaya. Pours a lightly hazy harvest gold with a small white head that lingers throughout. Aromas of cobwebs, oak, grass, pear, green apple and light wood. Active carbonation with a nice creamy mouthfeel. A little bit boozy as it warms, but not overly so. Nice dry and crisp finish. Some tartness present on the palate, but muted with age clearly. Still, very enjoyable.
