2008 bottle at North Bar, Leeds. Pours a hazy orange, finger of white head. Aroma is incredible - grapefruit, lemon, sherbet, backyard funk, some dust. Classic gueuze. Taste is great, too - grapefruit, lime, sherbet, a bit of apricot, almost bready. Obviously sour, of course, but not nearly as puckering as a Cantillon. Medium bodied, CO2 prickle, slightly dry, yet long, flavourful finish. Oh joy.

Cloudy orange body with a fully lasting white head that laces the glass well. Moderate aroma of... eh... geuze... My geuze vocabulary is really poor, maybe because I don’t find this style particularly interesting and haven’t rated many of them. There’s nothing wrong with the style or this specimen at all, it just don’t ring my bell. I get notes of light tart fruits, tart green apples and faint funk in the moderate aroma, the same goes for the moderate flavour. The taste is moderate acidic and light sour without any bitterness. It’s light-bodied and very dry with a moderate carbonation.

Bottle @ Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Pours hazy amber with small white head. Clear vinous aroma, with hints of malt and hops. Vinous flavour, with bitter, hoppy notes and touches of yeast. Lingering, vinous aftertaste. Well-balanced and nice.

375ml bottle (2010 vintage) pours semi-clear hazy golden orange with a finger of head and long retention. Nose is full of musty old barn wood, hayfield, granny smith apple skin, lemon juice, skunk, and funk. Taste is mildly tart crisp acidic green apple, funky lemon, hay, old wood, sourdough. Finish is dry tart funky citrus, wood, lemon, apple, mild acidity. Nice and mellow.

Pours a nice orangey amber color. Quite cloudy. Medium fizzy head, white. Bubbles dissipate fairly quickly and leave nothing behind. The aroma is peache, nectarine, plum sweetness with some lemon/lime citrus. Some oak character. Mild vanilla. Some funk, but it’s light and not very developed. The bottle probably could use a few more years. Medium sour. More light stone fruit that stays relatively sweet. Sweet is probably the wrong word because it’s still a rather dry beer. Medium carbonation. Light feel.

375 ml bottle, vintage 2010. Aroma has light acidity, mostly lactic with moderate bright stone fruit notes, especially peach. Light tropical fruit and barnyard funk. Pours a cloudy, pale yellow gold with a fairly large, fluffy white head that displays really nice head retention. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a medium light acidity, mostly lactic. Moderate stone fruit character, especially peach and apricot. Low, bitterness with faint oak. Fairly low barnyard funk. Not much earthy, herbal notes either. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but kind of boring. Lots of bright stone fruit, but not much complexity in acidity or funk. Could definitely use more time to develop complexity, but is pretty enjoyable and easy drinking now.

Bottle 2003. Geruch säuerlich, weißweinartig. Start sauer, holzig. Mitte sauer, Holzfaß, trocken. Abgang extrem trocken und sauer. Gefällt mir überhaupt nicht. Not my style.
