doubleo (670), San Diego, California, USA Apr 22, 2008 Bottle. My first Geuze ever. Pours orange/yellow with a fizzy white head that hangs around the edges. Smells funky and sour, a little burnt plastic in there as well. Tastes dry and sour with some citrus and hay flavors. Very dry, medium body. Vibrant, almost over carbonated.
Grovlam (2915), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Large thick bubbly off-white head that mostly lasted. Light cloudy golden copper color. Really good display of lacework. This was a very well balanced Geuze I thought with notes of light horse blanket, soap, perfume and nice feel of soft fruity touch. Over the palate came quite smooth and mild sour grapefruit like with a mix of other sour and mild sweet fruity notes. Medium bodied with a surprisingly lively carbonation and dry texture. Moderated acidic with good counter sweetness. Ends dry and fresh – sour grapefruit and horse blanket like. Snojerk321 (904), San Diego, California, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle @ Stone Sour Fest 2008. Pours a cloudy haze of orange, dusty color topped with a white soapy head. The aroma is mainly of wood - oak bark, as such - and then there is a wave of musty brett. Quite dry and has that wheaty character. Liberal funk but lacking in a true complexity. Carbonation is lively and prickly but this in some ways helps to mask the 8% alcohol. Earthy and woody mostly. emacgee (976), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jul 21, 2008 2003. Pours a translucent golden/peach with a thin fizzy white head that quickly subdues. Very tart and citric aroma, grassy, earthy, very dry and vinous, muscadine grapes. The flavor is very acidic and tart but you can tell its mellowed. Dry acetic bite, some citrus and lemongrass and a little earthy. Nice gueuze. durhambeer (323), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Vintage 2003. Slightly hazy golden/orange pour. Bubbly white head that disappears pretty quickly. Big strongly acidic nose, rubbery, bretty, with some scuppernong notes. More so on the palate. Quite good, but definitely a big-ass gueuze. aubreya (653), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 The color was hazzy golden with orange hues. The head was frothy and off-white. The aroma was extremely acidic and tart, grapes, The flavor was tart, waxy, and spice. The palate was slick. The finish was waxy.
