3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mumares (93) - BELGIUM - MAR 24, 2011
Pours cloudy orange with a good long lasting head. Aroma is citrus, apple and some mild barnyard aroma. Nothing aggressively sour, but just a very drinkable and mild geuze.

A - Pours a bright cloudy golden-orange color with a two fingers of frothy white head. The head has really nice retention and some very nice lacing.
S - Lots of fruit esters including apple and pear. There is also some citrus and some sour elements. There also some funk mixed in with just a hint of yeast.
T - Starts off with sweet and tart fruit flavors including apple and lemon flavors. Little bit of funk in the background with some soft oak flavors. Through the middle a bit more sour comes through with some lemon peel and sour apple. The finish is a nice blend of tart and sour with some nice fruit flavors, some funk, and just a touch of light spice. Nice lingering finish.
M - Light-medium bodied with a moderate amount of lively carbonation. Feel really crisp and alive on the tongue. The finish is really nice and crisp with just the right amount of tart and sour elements.
D - Very drinkable. The flavors are complex and fairly strong, but they stay very well balanced and the beer as a whole stays really crisp and super refreshing. Very enjoyable beer.

Bottle @ home. Slightly hazy, yellow-orange appearance with a foamy white head. Sour, yeasty, barnyard nose. Slightly lemon citrusy, barnyard, sour, slightly woody flavor. Barnyard, funky, sour finish.
3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 highlandlad (1319) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAR 7, 2011
Had high hopes for this after the divine Mariage Parfait but found it thin and weedy. It’s lively-looking - cloudy tangerine with a thick, rocky head and busy carbonation. Highly promising aroma - cream cheese, sour lemons and a hint of barnyard. Zesty and vigorous. There’s a burst of mouth-watering fruity acids at the front of the mouth and then it falls through a trapdoor. Where’s the middle? Could really use some body. Lemon sourness but none of the funk in the nose reaches the tongue. Dry, acidic finish. Grabby carbonation. (375ml bottle from Platinum Cellars. 2003-04 vintage)
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Scopey (1179) - Croydon, Surrey, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2011
2007-2008 bottle at Brouge, Richmond. It pours a clear yellow-orange colour with a thin, quickly dissipating off-white head and lively carbonation. The nose is sour lemon sherbet, red cox apples, farmyard and yeast. The taste is initially sour: bitter lemon, granny smith apples, orange and grapefruit, which mellows out to sweeter rhubarb notes. It’s certainly not the sourest lambic, but has a good balance between sweet and sour. It’s not complex, but I find it very, very easy to drink.

Not a bad gueuze... took a few sips to get used to, but after a while it went down alright.

Well this was different. Aroma suggests an under-ripe pineapple wearing a sweaty T-shirt. Maybe some sourdough as well. Beer is a hazy golden yellow with a thick bubbly white head. The taste is a lot of things. There is a musty basement character. Perhaps some oak. Again the sourness that’s rather pleasant. Citrusy fruit again towards pineapple. Yeasty. Has prickly carbonation and is quite dry. Interesting but will take some practice.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 crossovert (2547) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 22, 2011
12 oz green corked and caged bottle. Best before 22.05.2028. Cork says SB 61
The cork flies off with a huge pop do not open it towards someone.
It pours a typical gueuze orange/gold that is nice and murky. The head is more active than most and billows up, perhaps because I think this is a rather young bottle.
It is funky and sour in the nose. There is significantly more lemon in this one than I am used to. There is also a bit of malt sweetness in the nose that makes it a pretty good smelling gueuze.
The taste is pretty funky but not ultra sour. There are hints of barnyard, pale malts, wheat, lemon, bitter grapefriut, and medicine. It is quirky but good.
Overall not the best of the Gueuze category but solid.
