Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Thanks to Gem for this 37.5 cl. from the 2011-12 brewing season. Funky sour citrus-berry aroma pops right out with cork. In the glass it also develops some musty grape, white wine and oak. Hazy golden body has some mild activity that supports a lasting film of creamy foam. Tastes of tart berry, earthy toast, lemon, white wine and sharp funky cheese. Finish has some mild oak notes that linger and get more intense. Medium body has a smooth, medium-high carbonation that provides a nice little tingle but never erupts. Has a nice balance and only a mild astringency for such an intense sourness.

375 ml corked and caged, 2011-2012 brewing season.
Hazy, dirty, golden color. Lively carbonation creates a thick, bubbly but rapidly dissipating off white head, and very little lace.
Aroma is sour fruit, wood, lemons, funky cheese.
Flavor is sweet, acidic, lemony, wood. Finish is dry.

37.5 cl bottle at home, 2010-2011 brew season, so quite young. Fine orange-gold colour with a lively effervescence and a tight white head. Aroma of sour lemon and a hint of vegetable hop, earthy and pungent. Taste is initially sharp and sour with a sweet aftertaste. Lively on the tongue with a long dry finish. Overall a fine beer and one with a developing character as the glass empties. Superb with a strong cheese, I enjoyed this with some Dorset Blue Vinney.

2011/2012 bottling from Mitra (Beukenweg, Amsterdam) Heady, sweet aroma without too much oak. Not to sour, not to sweet. Well balanced but lacking in any complexity. The Marriage Parfait is significantly better, but this is not bad for the price (about 2.65 Euro a bottle at Mitra).
