Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate lemon and wood. Appearance: large, frothy, off-white initial head with fair lacing and mostly-diminishing longevity. Clear, dark-yellow body. Taste: moderately sour, lemon, leather initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: light body, dry texture and fizzy carbonation. Overall: interesting and easy to drink.

En fût. Plutôt flatte, cette bière possède énormément de notes la rapprochant du vin. La complexité est là, mais n’est pas spectaculaire. Son manque de vie m’agace un peu.

The beer has a nice golden color. Little cloudy, but a really nice color. The beer has a nice layer of foam. This are the only pluses. The smell is a sour penetrant zoo smell, disgusting. The taste is even worse, it is even worse than disgusting. The beer as a extremely sour and penetrant tongue twisting taste, I can’t describe it, but you don’t want t find out. I wonder if it isn’t rotten. I thought Lindemans Faro was dirty but this is the absolute bottom of beer brewing quality. I don’t want to disrespect the brewers, but this lambic thing is definitely not my thing. This is the first time a beer disappears in the sewer, after only two sips.

2011/12 version. Appearance: dark golden and cloudy (yeast got into the pour), with minimal head. Aroma: Funk, stale paper, fresh hay, barnyard, and apple. Taste: Some sweet citric maltiness and apple, turning to an acidic, lactic sourness and hint of bitterness. Mouthfeel: light to moderate body with a high carbonation. Finish: Very dry with some lingering acidity and tartness, and a hint of Brett funk. Overall: Good Gueuze. Solid balance of brett funk, lactic sourness, and some fruity yeast characteristics. Dry and effervescent.
