Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

330ml bottle, pours a hazy orange yellow. Aroma of ripe banana, a real sour yeasty bread/vinegar note. This is my first geuze and wow, taste is a sweet and sour carnival! Some fruit does creep through though, banana, grapefruit and lemon.finish goes completely sour and then some sweet fruit returns.

Stormy orange appearance. Bubbly. Lovely foam. Faint aroma. Pouring the whole bottle brings more sourness. Easy gentle geuze.

Draft pour. The beer is a light yellow with a soft haze. Not much for head, but the little that was there, was white. The beer had a soft acidity to it with a bready, straw like character to it. Mild acidity in the taste and the grassy, straw character remains throughout. Medium body and low carbonation.

Bottle 375 ml from the 2011-2012 brewing season. Pours orange with foamy white head. Aroma: oak, funk, citrus. Wild taste, with citrus, funky and spicy notes. Medium acidity. Lively carbonation. Amazing gueuze, would drink it again anytime!

Bottle 2011-2012. The sourness is not overwhelming. It is fresh with sweet undertones. Easy drinkable, like a sparkling wine.

2004-2005 vintage in corked 750mL bottle. BB 14.06.2027. Smuggled this back from Belgium years ago (’07 I think), and has been sitting in the cellar since. Good uncorking. Pours a lively slightly cloudy orange-gold body, white head flairs up holding a small firm cap. Decent intensity of aroma - typically dominant grapefruit rind, hay, unripe pineapple, hard cheese, yeast lees, faint sort of a tropical fruit character. Effervescent body drives that acidity - not overly tart but certainly zesty, livening up the palate, and senses. The aged "factor" seems more apparent on the body - chalky/minerally character, very hay/cut grass/meadowy (is that a word!?), citrus not as abundant as the nose would dictate, still some grapefruit & lime leaf. Aged cheese notes linger on a reasonably long finish with notes of white balsamic & funky apple. Glad to finally try this, and certainly not disappointed. Oldest bottled lambic I’ve tried, by some measure, yet still seems youthful - testament to how long these beers can keep!

Bottle (2011-2012) at porgu, tallinn. Hazy orange-golden color, white head. Aroma has super sour fruity notes, earth and stables. Sour fruity taste, apples, stables. Sour, crispy but still balanced.

250ml bottle. Funky sour, citrus-berry aroma. Viney sour taste with some fruity tastes. Interesting, smooth sample. Medium-high carbonation.

Sour aroma with a bit of sulfur. In the background there are some malty and champagne notes. It’s light golden color, with poor head which is not odd for lambic but it doesn’t look very good. There is a lot of big yeast pieces in the beer floating around. In taste it’s very sour in the beginning. But immediately after that it’s getting more salty. It’s fully dry. Has this huge wooden, salty and sour finish. It’s definitely not easy drinking, but very interesting beer.

Bottle @ the Brewery Boon during the Toer de Geuze - Color: cloudy pale blond beer with no carbonation and really small white foam. Smell: grassy and floral. Good complexity and high acid nose. Taste: very nice balance of grassy, caramel and sour. Good beer, well equilibrate. Aftertaste: floral finish.
