3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12.7oz corked bottle. My experience with geuze is limited, so I figure I should make an effort to start trying what’s available. This was the cheapest one I found that I hadn’t yet tried, so I went for it first. Date on the label reads 20-01-2031. Good oaky, somewhat lemon - citrusy nose. Clear orange color. Thin, sort of bubbly white head. Lace doesn’t stick. Good moderate sour taste, not puckering, not too sour. Light sweet. Bigger body. Smooth, lightly soft carbonation. Lightly sticky texture, sort of creamy. With the light tart flavor, it makes for a more refreshing warm weather sipper, sort of like a berliner weisse (as I hoped), but more fuller bodied and complex. Aroma is oak, light lemon citrus, some spice, some funk. Pretty enjoyable stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2013 Licht zuur, lekker. Geuzr en oud bruin lijkt dus op elkaar en vind ik beide lekker. Pubquiz gaat niet super. Nogmaals met popquiz.. Ruikt sterk en smaak goed, maar toch iets omlaag van 4.1 naar 3.8

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
This reminded me of that Time Team episode when they end the 3rd day of archeology on a Roman site drinking a concoction made of stale bread and fruits, in an attempt to mimic Roman beer. It was not even sweet, due to the 3 days of brewing, but sour as hell. Everyone enjoyed the historical significance of that experience.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared at home, forget where we got it from now. Pours golden orange with a thick white head, good lacing. Funky aromas, cider, vinegar. More on the taste, with something basement-like and musty. Lingering sour finish. Good sour.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 08/30/2013. Hazy orange pours, fine-bubbled head dies to rest on the surface, dense ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is notes of orange and lemon, tart grapefruit with underlying bitterness, soured cereal and hay, earthy and musty, damp wood. Taste is slightly acidic citric notes, grapefruit bitterness, bit of grape with cheesy funk, wood. Medium body, sharp carbonation and fry finish. Nothing particularly outstanding in any one aspect but fairly solid as a whole, nice shelf geuze.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle picked up along my travels.
A - Pours hazy orange with a nice one and a half finger tall white head leaving spotty trails lace down parts of the glass.
S - Smells of cheesy funk, basement must, damp earth, hay, oak and some light citric fruitiness. This is one funky smelling beer.
T - Starts off with the cheesy funk quickly giving way to the must, some barnyard funk, mild citric fruit, oak and the damp earth. Finish is dry, not lingering on the palate for very long. Compared to the nose it is much more balanced, making it surprisingly easy to drink.
M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Tart, dry feel from start to finish. Not as aggressive as some of the other well known gueuze’s are.
O - A pleasant enough gueuze, especially for the money. $10 for a 750ml? It may not be the best out there but I will gladly pay that much for a quality gueuze such as this.
