Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Dark, hazy copper with a thick and rocky white head. Subdued sour aroma and a pinch of malt. Pretty decent tartness up front in the taste, but it fades off to a very weak and almost watery finish. Quite a plain Gueuze.

375cL bottle from 2003. Copper color and a small head. The aroma is pretty sour with pedio and lacto. The flavor is balanced with sour and sweetness, with a hint of a woody, burnt flavor. Might be a bit too sweet. Good beer.

Pours a clear and effervescent light copper color, with only a thin topping of large foamy bubbles. No head retention and no lacing. No worries. Tangy aroma, a bit floral with some subdued tart lemon and tangerine. Tart and dry flavor with citrus, herbal, very ripe (over ripe even) pineapple, and a bit of sharp cheese. Lightish body, very carbonated (champagne-like), and very refreshing after working outside for a couple hours in the summer heat. Tangy lemon, dry French cidre, and sour pineapple in a lingering aftertaste.

2002-2003 bottle at home. Very sour start. Yellowish color. Champagne-like sure, and I love Champers, but this is too sour for such pleasure. Tart and full of apples. I respect but not my thing.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2007 Seemed like a dry slightly sour champange and a delightful beer. Bought this bottle at John"s Market in Portland. Page 66 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 199 Classic Brews left to have from this book.

Corked bottle, poured a crystal clear golden color with a very thick white head and had bubbles lined all on the inside of my tumbler. Cidery and tart aroma. As the description indicates, very much like champagne. Tart flavor, hints of apple cider, pear and that little added "funk". Great bubbly mouthfeel and a very acidic aftertaste. My fist gueze and this style will take a little getting used to.

A warm pinkhued amber with a decent head, thinning to a reasonable amount, and staying that way. The nose is really quite nice. A distinctive fruity sourness, reminiscent of yogurt. Dry, almost champagne like. Certainly doesn’t feel like champagne in the mouth! Lively, effervescent, but also tingly. It’s like those little bacteria are nibbling at my tongue. The flavor isn’t too champagne like either. A fruity, blackberry like, twange right up front, with those yogurt culture sort of strains coming right through. The flavor are really so unique to me as the style is unfamiliar. Strawberry maybe a bit. the finish is tart, really getting at the sides of the tongue. The finish is a dry bitterness, though againl the fruity tart sort, not hops at all in the least. Really delightful, I wish I could find more of this stuff locally.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Bottle from ’Beers of Europe’ had this on Boxing Day 2006 tried to convert other family members to this style but ended up drinking everyone elses. Aroma was sharp and acidic, colour light golden and very lively strong acidic trademark dry and sour Gueze got bettter and better as it slipped down, lovely. Had this again at Times Cafe, Ypres, Late June 2007 This really is excellent, super sharp, super dry, lovely bubbles one of my favourites and would be great to try alongside an equivalant Cantillon 4.0 Had once again, shared with Casey, Loz, Traci in a Belgian beer tasting night 15-08-07 Also noticed that initially got a burst of lemon reminded me instantly of Jif lemon being squeezed into the roof of the mouth, wonderful sour streak that burst through on first taste, otherwise as good as I remember Once again a 4.0 Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Gent, Belgium April 2012 consumed at home 24.05.12 Pours hazy orange gold looks a bit like squash. Spritzy, zesty aroma bit of old dusty furniture. Reliable, comfortable Geuze, soft around the edges, great stuff. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
