COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Pours hazy straw with a fizzy white head. Nose of... well, lambic (esters?) Smooth sourness, some fruity esters, and apparently what people call brett. I LIKE

Bottle shared with (and courtesy of) Veitafan. Has a cloudy orange colour with a small off-white head. Sour aroma of vinegar, hay and some barnyard, and is well balanced. I find the same in the flavour but feels more sour and in addition apple cider vinegar, gooseberries and some spices. Nice. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light berry bitterness. A great and balanced gueuze.

Bottle, 375 ml (2009-10). Slightly unclear goden with a small tight white head, good regeneration. Aroma of barnyard, vinegar, gooseberries, light wood. Taste is light sweetness, barnyard, vinegar, light oak, with hints if elderflowers and gooseberries. Smooth, yet tart mouthfeel, crisp finish. Had this is after a few glasses of champagne. And it still kicked butt.

Pale hazy straw gold, nice white head. Rhubarb, earth, lemon zest, lemon juice and grape nose. Flavour is moderate sourness, with stewed rhubarb and a little cheesy spice. Light bodied, highly carbonated. Finish is short and sweet and sour. A nice moderate lambic.

Pours a nice full head which recedes rapidly. Strawcoloured, slightly hazy if you allow the sediment to be poured as well. Fairly typical geuze-smell: autumn forest floor, yeasty, earthy, hints of apple and lemon. Sour, but not as much as you might expect of a geuze. Tart, hints of bitter, and a bit reminiscent of cider. Very drinkable, and a good introduction for someone who wants to try geuze for the first time.

Lemons and cheese. But more lemons. Who’d a thunk that I’d crave cheese and lemon in a beer. And this is just the starter level. Barnyards, sweat and horses are in my cupboard. Hell yeah, I’m in a hardcore band. How do you like those noiseniks?

Bottle at Jimmy's no. 43 NYC. Very consistent in its tart and sweetness. Hits you with the yeast and carbonation. Potent and interesting and good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Moderate funk in the nose, coming through more in the flavor. Light acidity and a touch of lemon. Quite dry; very light.

375 ml bottle, ’09-’10, poured into a snifter at home. ABV 7% The cork flew across the room as soon as I uncaged it, scared me shitless. Pours a beautiful golden yellow colour, very clear body, with one finger of snow white head on top, with very good retention. A little bit of continuous activity in the glass. Weird but at the same time attractive aroma, white grapes, smells quite a bit like wine, really strong smell of fresh bread with sesase seeds as well. Quite sour taste, just a bit of sweetness at first but aftertaste is definitely sour. Lots of white grapes notes, a bit yeasty too, and very notable lemon taste. Quite carbonated, but easily drinkable, medium thin on the body and average dryness on the palate. Very good beer.
