Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Looks great, clear golden body with good white head. Has interesting aroma that really reminds me of smiths bacon fries, also comes threw in the flavour. Some sulphur and onsen (Japanese hot springs) notes also very present, but not off putting. The taste is wel rounded, not too dry, perhaps a little thin in the finish. Overall, very interesting, quite unique and well worth a visit, but I don’t think I would make it my go to geuze.

25 cl, 2008 bottle. Yellow with a faint head. Aroma of grass, funk, barnyard. Taste is of grapefruit rind, lemony zest, very earthy, and some doughyish character, it develops to a more complex and more fruit forward when it gets warmer, grapefruit is very clear, quite evened out and well balanced.

Corked and caged bottle 37.5 cl, brew season 2010-2011. Hazy orange amber, mostly lasting, nice frothy off-white head, reduces to a lasting creamy layer, good lacing, lively carbonation; fresh sour aroma, hay, vinegar, citrus, apple cider, oak; taste is moderate sour, slightly sweet; medium body, watery texture; lasting dry sour finish, mineral notes. Bit sharp. Very good classic sour geuze.

Barwa: złota, klarowna. Piana biała, drobno pęcherzykowa, szybko opadająca. Aromat: kwaśny, piwniczny, korkowy. Klasyka. Smak: kwaśny, wykręcający kubki smakowe. Niewielkie nuty jabłkowe. Alkohol prawie niewyczuwalny.

330ml bottle @ the 3rd Shrewsbury Bottle Share, courtesy of Jon. Has a typically wincing sourness with thin vibrant bubbles and sour apple sweets / green apple skin piercing through the palette. A classic.

Bottle from Maltitude in Columbus, GA. Pours a cloudy golden yellow. Little head. Aroma is sour, lactic acid, yeast with hints of green apple and slight citrus. Taste is tart, but not overly sour. Hints of yeast, bread, lactic acid and green apples. Palate is highly carbonated, thin body. First beer I’ve tried in this style, but this is enjoyable. I’ll definitely be trying some more.

Bottle from mane liquor. 2010 edition. Pours a golden vibrant orange with a fluffy white head. Nose is lemon peel, oranges and citrus. Slight acidity in there. Aging hides that sourness. Taste is more citrus and lemon peel. Very tasty. Even some slight farmhouse notes in there too. Enjoyed this one! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
