A great funky farmyard aroma. A bit of a crabapple flavor to it. Funky, tart, with a crisp bubblyness. A tasty beer; a little too coating in the finish.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 FlacoAlto (3143) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - AUG 13, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 10, 2003 Tasted Sept 8th, 2003 Quite an orange color, cloudy and pours with a white head. Fairly carbonated, as it should be. The aroma is at first acetic with notes of citric acid as well, this leads to the typical barnyard and musty aromas. This beer has a wonderfully complex aroma. It tastes quite acidic, notes of citrus and vinager too. Wonderfully traditional (especially considering that the Kriek and the Framboise are not, oh Frank what have you done to stay afloat in the world of lambic). This beer is invigorating, like a hot dry summer day. The acidity softens considerably as it warms up, and a subtle sweetness develops in it. This beer was much better than it was last time so I am bumping it up a bit. Tasted early 2001 Lightly sour aroma with a bit of funkiness to it. Does not taste all that sour, one of the more mellow sour Geuzes. Does not have the fullness and balance of the better made ones (Hanssens for instance), though still quite good. The sourness reminds me of grapefruit, and there is a bit of fruitiness in the beer which accentuates this perception as well. (Previous rating of 7/4/7/3/14/ 3.5)
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 tupalev (2730) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 6, 2005
Bottle from some bottle shop in Switzerland, courtesy of me - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and GregClow. 2001-02 vintage.
Dark yellow, big white head. Aroma of earthy sour notes, old cheese, and a metallic like scent as well. Taste is an incredible earthy sourness - like the bitterness of eating fresh herbs. Incredibly sour, but in a different way than any gueze I have had before. Medium mouthfeel to the whole package. Almost a minty aftertaste. Acidic. What an interesting beer, I loved the complexity.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 shrubber85 (5051) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAY 8, 2006
Bottle. Musty malt and light grapefruit aroma. Cloudy dark amber color with giant, quick collapsing head. Moderately dry, tart musty grapefruit flavor with light slightest hint of sweetness at the end. Long lasting tart aftertaste. This beer is a work of art - exquisitely blended. Has the typical gueuze tart, musty flavor without being overwhelming. Many gueuzes are hard on my stomach and I can only take so much but this one is much easier to drink without being sweet.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JonMoore (1573) - Loughborough, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2005
Cloudy, old gold colour with a big off-white head. Aroma is sour, fresh and barnyardy. Taste is nicely sour, not as vinegary as some geuze. Quite highly carbonated and dry. It is not like champagne; champagne is crap over rated french wine, this is a nice lambic.
Best Geuze I’ve tried to date.

Well balanced. Has earlier tasted it to mussels, which was perfect. Frank Boon makes perfect beers.

Bottle, Dram Shop, Sheffield. 2005-06. Hazy golden colour with a very lively dissipating off white head. Enticingly complex aroma ; oaky and sour, da funk, and prickly citrus notes, revealed itself further with each sniff. Certainly a bubbly affair. Flavour a treat; funky sour, fruity n’ fresssshhhhhhh; becoming gobi dry. I would probably rather drink one of these instead of a glass of champagne. Straight outta the top drawer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Naka (642) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 17, 2008
Courtesy of Nate. Pours a hazy bubbly orange golden color with a thick frothy white head. Has a spicy horse blanket smell... tons of funk, some bitey citrus notes. Lots of fruit, possibly some apple and clover honey. A little bit of sweet taste up front, but then you get hit with a wall of funky sour. Almost a savory flavor in the end. The sour turns into a dry bitterness, and stays nicely on the tongue. Very nice body.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ober (2248) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - JUN 24, 2008
A hazy golden colored beer, with a huge off white head. It disappears very soon. The aroma is malty sour, with tones of oak in the back. Also some citrus. The taste is sour with sweet tones. It has the flavor of oak. The after taste is some dry. The sparkeling stays for a very long time. The combination of tastes like bitter, a little fruity are staying for a while.

Golden color.
Nice sour aromas and crisp taste.
One of the best Geuze I ever tried (not much).
