Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Aroma - citrus-ish green apple, cider, slightly grassy and earthy. Big, rapidly diminishing, slightly coarse head atop a slightly hazy pale straw body. Flavour was a bit green apple cider upfront, before the acidic sourness kicked in with some earthy and funky notes in the background. Quite pleasant once you get into it.

A very, very lactic gueuze, though not bracingly sour by any means. More like a spoonful of fresh Greek yogurt. Hints of lemon zest, a tinge of ye olde blanket, and, regrettably, a touch skunky. But still very solid.

375ml bottle served in a Lindemans flute glass. Vintage 2011-2012 bottle. A: Pours a hazy light orange color forming a huge fizzy and soapy white head. Great retention and tons of small soapy lacings left in the glass. S: Notes of pale malts and citric fruits in upfront. Apple vinegar. Hints of apples and pears. Oak. Leather. Metallic notes. Hints of flowery hops. T: Follows the nose. Classic Geuze taste. Very fruity. Moderate sourness. Apple vinegar. Hints of apples and pears. Oak. Leather. Metallic notes. In overall, a dry taste. Finish is sour and bitter but moderate. M: Light to medium body. Strong and very fizzy carbonation. Fruity aftertaste. Good bitter-sour balance. O: Great drinkability. For Lambic lovers.

Brewing season 2010-2011. Aroma: Funky, tart, yeast. Taste: Nice funky sourness, yeast is present in a good way. Overall a really good geuze, but a little to over carbonated for me.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2014 250ml bottle from Belgian eshop, Vintage 2009-2010 Slightly hazy orange color, very very little carbonation, just barely get a 1-2mm head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a bit subdued because of the lack of carbonation, I can sense fruity and funky aromas, some caramel too with some maltiness. Taste is sweetish, with some herbal qualities, the sourness and funkiness are very subtle... Some tartness in the finish but sweetness is too much for the style(and the age) of this brew. Some herbal hoppy notes in the finish too. Medium boded and very drinkable but not what I expected. This one I would give it a total score of 3.7 but I’ll leave it as is for the 2010-2011 vintage... 250ml bottle from Belgian eshop, Vintage 2010-2011 Slightly hazy with some yeast floaties and big white head. OMG the head retention is too good to be true! Aroma is much more funky and the brett smells amazing. Very barnyard-y aroma, notes of lemon and not much sourness. Taste starts with nice acidity complemented by a touch of earthy bitterness and some amazing sweet fruitiness. Some wood too. Long dry finish, not too tart. High carbonation, medium bodied. I guess as I got back in time with the Geuze of Brouwerij F. Boon it get’s even better...

azy golden colour, white head, sediment in the bottle. Smells of citrus and wood. Tart apples as well. I also notice very subtle vanilla notes and some basement aromas. Medium bitter and - of course - quite sour, but not too much.

Bottle 37,5 cl of 2011/2012 brewing season. Amber, bit cloudy with rich white, but fastly dissappearing head. Rich frity aroma. Sour bit fruity taste, followed by some sweetness. Mild bitterness, in turn, comes later and softly stays as aftertaste, followed by mild sourness, lasting longer.

2011-12 brew: Pretty tart but balances nicely with some oak vanilla and ripe fruit (berries, peach, ?) but with a lingering sour. Has some malty breadiness/toastiness as well. Super delicious.
