Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

Bottle. 2003-2004 vintage. Slightly hazy golden color with a big sparkling head. The aroma is mildly funky with lots of grass, lemon and grapefruit to it. A mild acidic note as well. The flavor is medium sweet and tart with some funky brett, grass and plenty of citric notes - tart lemon, sweet lemon and slightly bitter grapefruit. Hints of wood and mud. The finish has a mineral note to it as well as some malts and grass. Moderate body, lacks dryness. The mouthfeel is quite a downer. This is a decent gueuze. Easy to drink yet decently characterful.

Sampled from the 2012/13 brewing season from a bottle purchased at Belgisk Bryg in Copenhagen (highly recommended - a very friendly place!). The beer is a cloudy golden colour with a foaming white head. Delicious aromas of sour fruit and a taste which is refreshing, sour, complex, clean and fruity. The taste has lemon and lime in the flavour and is delicious and not at all vinegary. Long fruity aftertaste. A really great, well-made beer made using the spontaneus fermentaion method.

A bottle from the 2011 2012 season. Quite floral notes on the aroma, with just a hint of dryness. The sourness comes through on the finish, but the barrel aging has given a good balance
