COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style. To moderate the sourness, Boon Brewery only brews Lambic in the 7 cold months, from early October until April, according to the traditional "turbid mash" system. This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 months old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored up to 20 years. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Awards at the World Beer Championships: 2008 Gold, 2010 Silver, 2012 Gold Medal.

A lightly hazed golden orange color with a white head. Some slight sulfur up front followed by a nice funk note and some lactic tartness. A light grass note, some subtle fruits, and a bit of oak. There is a really good apple and lemon flavor to this. Some earthy funk, must, and grass. A dry finish, though there is a slight sweetness up front. Only a moderate tartness and acidity.

Sour on the nose with tart fruit in the background and a little sweetness. Cloudy dark amber with some sediment and a quick white foam. Tart on the tongue with sweetness and a little woodiness and a dry finish. Medium body with low fizz. The mustiness is muted and the taste overall is on the mild side for a geuze.

2010-2011 bottle. This bottle had quite a bit of movement before it was opened so some of the yeast was kicked up before it was poured. Pours a heavy orangish red color. Nose is barnyard, Apple juice, peach. Medium sweetness. Juicy finish. I think after drinking this with the dregs I like it this way it adds a huge fruit character and it takes away from the dry finish I normally have from this gueuze.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, citrus and acidity.

Appearance:
Hazy/turbid golden/amber beer with a slight/medium white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and Belgian yeast; ends slightly bitter, dry and sour with citrus and acidity.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense and balanced, but lacks complexity. Could have been way more complex for a Geuze, but is still great and totally not inartificial.

Bottle, 375ml, vintage 2013-2014. Pours moderately cloudy light amber with a finger of soapy white head. Small amount of visible carb. Quite fresh on the nose with lots of strong citrus, floral and grassy notes. Sour green apples emerge with a mustier undercurrent of barnyard and earthen yeast, though this is less pronounced than in other examples of the style. Big sour presence throughout most of the taste backed up by yogurt then leaves and earth in the moderately dry finish. Noticeable lingering bitterness in the finish. Less fruity than on the nose though some apple cider flavours are present and linger after the main sour hit dissipates. Sharp on the palate aided by lively carbonation - very refreshing. Medium body and moderately thick texture give some weight. Not as complex as say Hanssens Gueuze but goes down a treat anyway - super refreshing as with all good Gueuzes.

Cloudy gold with a lovely white head. Amazing aroma of blooming meadows, wild strawberries, lemon, grass, honey, lactic tang, brett funk. Taste is clean tart. Very dry and mouth puckering. Amazing beer, cant get enough of this aroma.

375ml 2013-2014 bottle @Pułapka. A little barnyard, grapes, lemon, a little vinegar, hints of cellar. Pours hazy light gold with white head. Medium sour, little bitter, dry. Tart and yeasty, very refreshing. Nicely carbonated. Very well balanced. Awesome price/quality ratio. Will be going back to this one time after time :)
