Boon Oude Kriek

2004 Vintage drunk at first BAP festival at Bruge. Nice and good tasting real kriek beer. A good combination of sweet and sour

2004 vintage. Pours with a brilliant Rose clarity and a hiss of suds. Head recedes to a halo. Dankness, funk, sherbet, a dab of vinegar on the nose. Tingles with juicy, whole fruit sourness and sparkle. A faint creaminess lurking in the background. Mildly acidic and very mellow at 6.5%. Gaviscon chaser not required. Puckering, tangy and lovely.

2003 bottle @ oud arsennal, antwerp. listed as and bartender (i think owner) confirmed it was the marriage parfait version. of course, it was not. and it was exactly pictured as it is here. oh well...pours clear bright red with pink head. nose is very sharp cherries. flavor is extremely acidic then harsh with cherries and finishes really fizzy in the mouth with not much reward. too much fruit makes this less sour. the fizzy and acitic feel ended up growing on me.

0.375 bottle. Bright red color with diminishing head. Strongly acidic and sulphury aroma with leather, strawberry and rose. The taste is also very acidic and sulphury with strawberries and raw cherries. Too sulphury.

After a few moments in the glass, the off-white/super-light pink head looks like fizzy marshmallow cream, lopsided and leaving creamy lacing. The body is a darker shade of orange/amber with ruby hues and evident vibrant carbonation supporting the rigidity of the head, really quite amazing. The aroma is more funked out young lambic than old, more muted fruit than discenible cherry, more interesting than not. Fresh cannabis growth sparks attention even though it’s deep underneath. Horseblanket, yeast and wood notes become more prevalent with each increasing degree of warmth. Some mild chlorine notes, not too offensive though and just another weird sensation in a glass rife with them. Vanilla cream and Pinot Meunier round out a world class aroma. The flavor is very funky without ever becoming overbearing or totally squashing cherry notes. The fruit is unmistakable in variety and unmistakably high quality. Nutty notes fold in. The taste is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately sour and very acidic without any off-putting astringency, only what is necessary to pare sweetness to a reasonable level. Yeast is not as noticeable in the flavor as it is in the aroma. The finish is balanced, citric, moderately acidic, mildly tart(though that’s the part that lingers longest) and of commendable duration. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, silky, with spritzy carbonation enveloped in syrupy containers, astringency drying out the mouth somewhat. This is an incredibly well made beer.

Just delicious and very nice. Not too much industrial at thisone compared to some others. Kriek in the real sour version and oude to make it great. Good balance. Dryness, medium carbonated and a surely quencher.

Bottled 375 ml, vintage 2003
Deep red color, steady cherry red head. Sour aroma with cherry and woody barnyard notes. Smooth, carbonated mouthfeel. As 4 yrs old vintage, this one is quite sour and intensive tart cherry fruityness. Body is a bit thin and you really can’t notice extra alcohol (6,5%, a bit higher than the normal 5%).

375 ml bottle. Brown reddish body with a big pink head. Aroma is dominated by sourness with mild cherry in the background. Flavor is of course cherry, but not very intense. Medium sourness and an aftertaste with elements from cherry stones.
