Oude Kriek Boon is one of the finest examples of the 100% spontaneous fermentation fruit-Lambic style. 400 g of wild cherries per litre are fermented together with a blend of young and old Boon Lambic that has been aged in oak casks. After clarification, the Oude kriek is bottled and refermented. It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavourings, preservatives or colourings added. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Pour slowly in a flute glass without disturbing the yeast sediment in the bottle. Cheers !

Bottle. Pours dark cherry red with pinkish head. Nose and taste of fresh cherry, old dry cherries, dry berry fruits, oak and light funk. Moderate acidity. Medium body. Finishes tart with slightly dry wood.

2012 bottle. I really loved the cherry aroma when opened the bottle. Pours nice dark pink head which then quickly disappears. Lambic is quite sour but there is a strong hint of cherries. It is pretty strong for a kriek but nice to drink in spring/summer. BTW best before is 2033 - yes, in 20 years :-)

This is by far the best of its kind. But to enjoy it requires first that you are OK with the concept of mixing fruit and traditional beer and second that you can enjoy a Lambic/Gueuze (although the latter appears only as aftertaste). The most interesting thing about this beer is the flavours of wild cherries the way they present themselves in a completely dry, crisp brew. At first, I thought I maybe missed body and depth, but on second thought, this is he character of the Lambic, and it compensates for that with a long, pleasant aftertaste. One could imagine to add sugar or brew it differently, but that would kill off these unique aromas. And the cherry would become, well, plain cherry. Having said that, it is clear that every concept has its limits and uses. Although this beer works fine with food, it is hard to imagine a course that would be lifted further like only a full bodied brew can achieve. But drink this alone in the winter, and you are suddenly taken away to your very best summer memories.

2012 bottle @home. Pours bright red with a creamy pink head. Aroma is a little sour, chery, but also a sttronger "biting" aroma I can’t name. Taste is sour, little chery. Some sour bitterness in the finish.

37,5cl bottle at home, 12/06/34. Cherry red colour, pink foamy head that nicely laces. Earthy, light sour cherry, medium malty body. Finish is sour kriek, lightly dry, doesn’t linger long. High carbonation, soft mouthfeel, medium body. Very balanced and smooth but too sweet imo.

On tap at Fermentøren, Copenhagen, DK. Unclear deep red with a pink to purple head. The aroma is fruity, cherries, sour yeast. The taste is moderate to high sour first, followed by a hint of sweetness. The palate is rather watery and the fruity finish a bit short.
