Oude Kriek Boon is one of the finest examples of the 100% spontaneous fermentation fruit-Lambic style. 400 g of wild cherries per litre are fermented together with a blend of young and old Boon Lambic that has been aged in oak casks. After clarification, the Oude kriek is bottled and refermented. It is unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurised and has no artificial flavourings, preservatives or colourings added. Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name. Pour slowly in a flute glass without disturbing the yeast sediment in the bottle. Cheers !

Bottle. Awesome brew... on one level it’s delicate, savoury, deep, and on another, it’s acidic, vinegary, almost harsh. Probably the best Kriek I’ve yet to have.

Best before 15.09.2029. Old rating from 2011. Tolle saure Kirscharomen mit einem Hauch Holz. Fruchtig und dennoch mild mit angenehmer Säure. Toll!

Pours clear deep (ruby?) red (into a snifter), with a brighter pink head. Cherry on the nose - some sweet candy. Sour cherry aroma, some sweet candy. Slight carbonation with small bubbles, and a dry mouth feel.

Great aroma from wood, cherries (duh!), citrus and vinegar. Taste is indeed dry and tart at first and the cherries break through pretty much. In the aftertaste I get an earthy and woody note that’s almost bordering towards stable and old horse blankets. The aftertaste keeps it interesting enough for me and I will certainly try this one again. I still feel like there’s more to catch up for me in the lambic styles, but I’m starting to enjoy it more and more. A nice Kriek.

2008 vintage from Tanakaya. Poured into a snifter. Clear plum red color with no head. Dark cherry notes along with some wood, almond and mint also present. Very little to no carbonation present. Taste is very well-balanced between lightly sweet and lightly sour. Starts off fruity and mildly sweet on the palate with the cherry really standing out. As it goes down it picks up a mild sour tone. Finishes bone dry with some nice tannin like quality. Wonderful at this age.

Bottle shared thanks to richthevillan. Purple beer with medium pink head. Aroma of dark cherries and funk. Taste is slightly sour, dark cherry, some funk and red wine hints. Nice carbonation, fizzy on the palate. Very good.

Bottle at home. Poured a hazy strong red with a light read finger thick head. Aromas of cherries with fruit notes reminiscent of good red cordials. Slight oak but very weak (works well with my taste). Tastes mildly sweet, medium sourness and lightly bitter. Medium bubbles. Very very tasty!

A complex lambic, with great fruit influence , a fresing last beer, tasted after a long long of ticking, would come back to it.

Rating from old notes. The traditional, more ’genuine’ edition of the popular Boon Kriek, unsweetened; deep hazy cherry red beer with crackling, coarse, off-pinkish head. Complex lambic aroma, wood, sour berries, wine vinegar, wet hay, the unmistakable ’horseblanket’ and sherry, all drenched in an overload of sour cherries. Very tart onset, fruity esters (unripe plums, sour berries), tons of ’real’ sour cherries, lemony and lactic acidity nicely intermingled with the sour fruit, lean mouthfeel with firm sparkling, dry finish of tannins (wood and cherry stones), lingering acidity, an echo of earthy hops and basic wheat sourishness, long and appetizing. Exemplary ’oude kriek’ but I’d have to taste it side by side with the Mariage Parfait version, which I thought was even ’fuller’, if my memory does not fail me.
