4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DarkMagus (433) - San Jose, California, USA - JUL 6, 2007
Bright cherry-red color with a thin but somewhat sticky pink ring of foam on the surface. Funky, sour, mouthwatering cherry candy aroma with a hint of acetic acid, sour citrus fruits, and a bit of grainyness. Super sharp, sour flavors with a lot of woody mustiness, sour cherries, Fizzy, soft, champagne-like mouthfeel with a dry and slightly astringent finish. Great stuff, super easy to drink... very addictive!

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2010 375 ml bottle purchased mail order from Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Best before 22.12 (based on other reviews, I take this to mean December 2012). Pour is strawberry deep red with a fluffy pink head that falls pretty quick. It is the exact same pink that is on the top of the label. Wild looking beer. Aroma of musty, funky, yeasty and cherries. Awesome nose. Taste is sour, tart funkiness with a very solid foundation of cherries. Everything works well together and is blended beautifully. Palate is medium, with a nice sharp tartness to the finish. Crisp, fruity, complex, refreshing. Wow, this was delicious.

A murky red pour with red stained white head. Massive barnyard funk on the aroma with a nice cherry flavor. The body wasn’t nearly as funkified as I’d hoped by the aroma - more a of a smooth tart cherry without the sourness and funk the nose promised. Delicately smooth.

Bottle which I smuggled back on a plane flight from Illinois. I’m happy it made it through the trip. Pours a medium-dark red, with some yeast at the bottom of the bottle. A thin white head sits on top and lasts for quite a while. Nose is nice and funky; barnyard and horse-blanket - classic lambic aromas. Flavor is a pleasant blend of fruity cherry sweetness and moderate tartness - not too strong, not too weak, but just right for a pleasant drinking beer. An absolutely enjoyable and drinkable lambic. Definitely not the most sour or extreme brew out there, but that can be a very nice thing sometimes, and it made for a tasty experience for my 200th rating.

2003 crop. Subtle, pretty, light red color. Big cherry and brett aroma, with basement dust, grass, sweet cherries and nutty stones. Flavor is cherry, minerals (a bit too much), cheesy hops, lemon, lactic acid. Amazing balance, crisp, clean palate. Great.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 traPISSED (87) - , NORTHERN IRELAND - MAY 17, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 31, 2010 75cl Bottle at home vintage 1979. This bottle was from Frank Boon’s third year of kriek production which started in 1976 with a tiny production output of 850 bottles. The 1979 bottles had no label and the corks were wine bottle corks with the year printed on them. The corks are held down by a metal clasp.
The cork on this bottle looked to be in a pretty bad way and the bottle had lost 1/6th of its contents over the past 31 years which actually is not that bad. I opened this one with some family and friends and due to the appearance of the cork I was not expecting any carbonation. Well I could not of got it more wrong! I carefully removed the cork and was greeted not with a pop or a hiss but a bang! This coincided with the bottom half of the cork cracking me right between the eyes much to the amusement of my family. The beer after 31 years had lost the majority of it cherry color and looked like a dark gueuze. The bottle also had a huge amount of sediment which led to a very murky appearance. As mentioned earlier there was still plenty of carbonation and quite a persistent head for the age. The aroma was of dark fruits, plums, figs and cherry. The taste had more plums and dark fruits with only a hint of cherry. This was until we got to the bottom of the bottle. The last couple of pours were full of sediment and this is where the cherry was hiding.
The general consensus was that this beer had been very carefully stored and everyone agreed that this would of had plenty of life for another 10 years and possibly even longer. Very interesting.

Shared bottle courtesy of tarjei. Clear red with a pink creamy head that disappates. Apples, raspberries, cherries and other berries in the aroma. Acidic fresh flavor with notes of berries and vinegar. Astringent. Medium bodied and a dry finish.

Bottle from Keg Liquors in Clarksville. Pours murky strawberry/tomato with thin bubbly pink head. Nose is sour, smarties, tart cherry. Flavor is moderate to strong sour pucker cherry with medium carbonation and sharp relatively quick, smooth finish. Wonderful treat for the occasion.
