COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The light was created to offer an alternative to the generic mainstream mid-strength beer being produced today. At 2.7 % alc./vol., the light is slightly darker in colour (light brown) as a result of the use of crystal malt. To combat the thinness of watery sensation of light beers, the crystal malt helps to add a touch of body and flavour to the beer. Combined with this is a reasonably high residual gravity that integrates with the crystal flavours to create a good sense of body that is not commonly found in beers at this alcoholic level. A faint bitterness is also displayed which rounds off to an encompassing hop flavour that adds to the body and mouth feel of the beer. Hence the beer is full and distinct in flavour, most unusual for beers of this strength.

ALLOVATE (1708) - Butler, WA, - NOV 14, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2005 A bit hesitant to taste any beer light in alcohol, most Aussie macro’s have stooped to low levels in their quest to brew a full flavoured light beer, but most micro-breweries tend to bring out the best in care when it comes to all their beers and this seemed no exception. Tasted from the bottle after a visit to the brewery and poured into a pilsner glass. Clear deep amber with a short lived bubbly white head that manged a little lace. Sweet caramel and nutty aroma, very subtle, with a little grassy hops. Thin watery palate, light in carbonation and and little length in the swallow. Light malty flavours, nutty and woody, a little sweet and only a hint of bitterness in the back (malt more than hops). Not too bad a light beer and a decent effort from this nice brewery in W.A.’s south.

An amber light is supposed to tell you to slow down before it goes red. At 2.7% you don’t have to at all. Silly really. I guess if you down a thin beer you become what you drink, but you also wouldn’t want to become insipid, unimpressive or tasteless.

Pours clear amber with medium fading to small white head. Hoppy aroma with hints of caramel. Thin, though smooth. Nutty with a slightly hoppy finish. Toffee in flavour too. Suprisingly good.

Yellow in colouring with a thick cloudy off-white head. HInt of floral, woody aroma. Smokey, malty taste. A bit too watery for my liking.

Awful. They told me at the brewery that the batch I was drinking had something wrong with it. Good for advertising don’t you think?

Didn't think much of this one from the bootleg mob. Thought it was a little bit similar to the settlers pale but mainly lacking in flavours and colour. No carbonation and no head grassy metallic taste.

At AIBA 2003. Not really amber in colour at all. However it actually does have quite a strong and agreeable flavour (for a light) Still a little watery though.

ABIA 2003: Not bad for a light, pretty watery, but you can actually taste hops and malt in this one.
