4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Smith Street Cellars. Great, true to style. Aromas of grass, caramel, coffee, notes of milk chocolate. Taste starts sweet, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is velvety, almost creamy, and medium bodied. Black, big frothy head.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a dark brown/black with a small off white head. Aromas of pine, grapefruit and stone fruit. Taste has subtle roasted malts and coffee backing the up front hoppy citrus flavours. Not overly bitter. Im a sucker for tropical black IPAs really like this one. Great beer!

Black pour, thick tan head. Aroma was pine, caramel, roasted grain. Taste was pine, fruity, caramelised sugar, good bitterness. My favorite beer from this brewery

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with an annoyingly huge, growing tan head.
Nose shows tropical fruit and piny hops along with some resinous notes, caramel and light roasted malt.
Flavours include a fair whack of tropical, piny and grapefruit hops with aggressive roasted malt showing up after, contributing some coffee notes.
Carbonation is a bit too high.

Bottle, 10C. Black with a large loose beige head.Aroma of stone fruits, grapefruit zest, lychees. Light bodied. Not very sweet, but plenty of nectarines and bright citrus flavours. A little singed mocha lurking underneath, so it’s not black for no reason but is still mainly about hops - I didn’t think "this is a porter really". Bitter with some coffee-like astringency as well as citrus and pine at the end.

Nice Black IPA. Pours a dark muddy cola and settles near black. Nice mocha colored head. nice looking body.
Lots of tropical fruits in the nose. passion fruit, grapefruit and pavlova. Not a huge amount of darkness noticeable but that is Ok.
Taste is tropical fruits and faint backing of chocolate, roast and coffee. Not that big but workable
Palate is high carbonation and light bodied. Get bits of a metallic pineapple, lemon, and pine.
Overall a nice black IPA. Well done beer and Australia keeps doing this style quite well as opposed to the rest of world.
