On tap @ the brewery. Amber brown color with a small amount of off-white head. Smoky peat malt aroma with some cocoa, caramel malt, and some herbal hops. Lots of peat in the flavor as well with some sweetness and toffee. ABV is well hidden but comes out more as it warms.

29 July 2011, tap at brewery. brown/orange, slightly hazy, no bubbles. nose isn’t that big and i don’t get much smoked sausage. thin body and slightly fizzy. really good smoked beer. smoked sausage and enough alcohol to not be drowned out. really good!

I had this on tap at Selma’s in Rancho Santa Margarita. It pours what looked like a garnet color with a minimal head. The aroma is smokey, but not overly done. The flavor is quite nice: smoke & malts dominate but it’s definitely quite drinkable. Enjoyed it

Pours a copper color with aroma of smoke and bourbon. Taste of smokey barbecue mixed with beer. The smoky flavor is subtle and not overwhelming.

Tap at Eureka Burger. Rating #2. Dark amber with a light tan head. Light malt aroma, slightly smoky with some sweetness. Smooth and easy to drink, caramel and a little peaty, some smokiness and it was all pretty well balanced. Nice beer. (1717)

A: The pour is a dark amber color, perhaps brown, with a thin layer of off-white head. S: You can definitely get the smoke from this one. Toffee and toasted malt, along with a hint of caramel, provide the sweetness. There is a hint of metal, however. As it warms up, some vanilla comes out. T: Smoke and peat are the dominant flavors as I take the first few sips. Things don’t change much throughout the glass. Sweet caramel and toffee, lots of toasted bread, and a surprising fruitiness--perhaps some golden raisins and sweet apples. M: Medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation. O: I must, in fairness, say that smokey beers aren’t my favorite. This one, however, manages to keep the smoke in check (despite it being a primary flavor).
