Black Phoenix melds rich bold coffee with the smokey flavors of chipotle peppers, giving it just a touch of heat. To insure the freshest coffee available, we had our local Orange County friends, Kean Coffee, custom roast a batch for us. Notes of chocolate complement this complex and bold stout. This special release will only be available in limited quantities so enjoy it while it lasts.

Bomber. Pours black with brown head and aroma of coffee and light peppers. Taste is of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt with a spicy, peppery undertone leading to a dry, light spicy finish. Very drinkable stout

Deep brown in colour with a thin beige head, light lacing. The aroma is of coffee, light spice, chocolate and dark malts. The flavour is of coffee, chocolate, light peppers, chalky. Malty mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with some light pepper heat at the very end. Nice stuff. The peppers take a back seat. Good base stout helps.

22 oz bottle sampled in November 2011. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate mild chipotle notes, light smoke with only a mild peppery heat. Thin mouthfeel takes away even more. Forgettable.

Dark black pour and as I poured, I got a sweet bitter chocolate with a hint of smokey. A quick bitter taste as I first sipped and a strong roast, oaky wood flavor. A burnt bitter lingering taste. Not a top stout for me

Near black with no head. Cocoa and smoke with mild coffee aroma. Not much Chipotle in flavor but it shows up as a Warming sensation on the palate. Roasty and coffee notes. Lightish palate. Some chalkiness.

650 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head that has poor retention. The aroma is weak and somewhat indistinct with traces black fruits and cardboard. The taste was watered down coffee, mocha and the lightest hint of peppers. The palate was thin and the carbonation was prickly. Finished short and unmemorable. Overall: I usually love chili beers but this just did not do it for me.

Good ending night as you pass out ? Leaves a good cocoa flavor in residual flavor. Like drinking a night cap

Pours very dark with a half o finger head. Aroma is smokey, coffee, some chocolate but not too much chipotles. In the taste I get some roasted coffee, smoke and a hint of chipotles in the end but not overpowering. No alcohol feel on this one. The body is medium to light, more like a Porter that a Stout. Overall, is a good beer but needs more complexity. More Coffee and chipotles would do it for me.

Bottled: unk Pours black, and has a rim of light tan foam and quite a bit of clarity. Smells of herbal hops, some some, some soily dust, bits of coffee and some cardboard. Taste is empty, watered down stout with toasted and roated malts, some coffee, a little too much smoke flavor, some hints of coconut and weedy. Mouth is empty with alittle too hi carb and an off dry finish. Okay beer. My wife really dug it so she drank most of the bottle. Serving type: bottle 09-14-2012

11/23/13. 22oz bottle. Black pour with a small khaki head. Roast aroma, very dry, plenty of coffee. Really rich toasty flavor, plenty of coffee, a lingering smoky heat. Bits of cream and milk chocolate. Tasty!
