4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Iíve tried 2 other beers from Bootleggers, Black Tuesday and Chocasauraus Rye, and this orange County Brewery does not disappoint. The Aroma is coffee and Chocolate roasted malts. On second inhale hints of cocoa powder, mild roasted chiliís and real mild hops piney scent come thru with the coffe and roasted malts. Thin light brown head that that dissapears in a hurry. It is very dark. I held it up next to one of the flood lights in my kitchen and still could not see through it. As for the taste, it is almost exactley like it smells I canít even taste the alcohol. The chili is noticeable as an aftertaste but its more of a mild tingle on the back of your throat. As for the mouth feel Itís not thin as some may suggest (think a little less than Oatmeal Stout). Overall Iíd say this beer is top notch. I am just hopping to find it closer to home next time.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours black, and has a rim of light tan foam and quite a bit of clarity. Smells of herbal hops, some some, some soily dust, bits of coffee and some cardboard. Taste is empty, watered down stout with toasted and roated malts, some coffee, a little too much smoke flavor, some hints of coconut and weedy. Mouth is empty with alittle too hi carb and an off dry finish. Okay beer. My wife really dug it so she drank most of the bottle.

Nice cola brown color with off white ring. Lots of chocolate and heat in the nose. Toasty malts, chilis, and bitter coffee. Pretty well balanced. A little to carbonated for me.

Bottle pour. Great coffee aroma blended with a kick of heat at the end. A near perfectly blended coffee pepper stout. Ha!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is initially very toasty buy as it warms the chipotle becomes rather noticeable. Light coffee note that was stronger when the beer was cold. Medium low chocolate aromas.
Pours dark brown, almost black with a moderately thick tan head that has decent retention but does end up disappearing to the sides. No lacing or legs.
Flavor has an initial sweet chocolate note that turns more toasty. Mid palate you get a nice coffee note, not too strong but instead more of a background note. The finish has a bit of chocolate and a light chipotle flavor. Some lingering spice in the finish - not too strong but definitely noticeable.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth, though there is some warmth from the peppers.
Overall a fairly well balanced stout that is on the smaller side compared to what most people release these days. The chipotle is well balanced and adds background flavor and aroma without kicking your palateís ass. The coffee is a bit on the faint side for my preferences.

Tap at the brewpub. Dark black pour with a small pure white head. Nice coffee aroma and taste with a little chipotle heat coming on late. Nice!
