4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
I’ve tried 2 other beers from Bootleggers, Black Tuesday and Chocasauraus Rye, and this orange County Brewery does not disappoint. The Aroma is coffee and Chocolate roasted malts. On second inhale hints of cocoa powder, mild roasted chili’s and real mild hops piney scent come thru with the coffe and roasted malts. Thin light brown head that that dissapears in a hurry. It is very dark. I held it up next to one of the flood lights in my kitchen and still could not see through it. As for the taste, it is almost exactley like it smells I can’t even taste the alcohol. The chili is noticeable as an aftertaste but its more of a mild tingle on the back of your throat. As for the mouth feel It’s not thin as some may suggest (think a little less than Oatmeal Stout). Overall I’d say this beer is top notch. I am just hopping to find it closer to home next time.

"At first, I was wishing this were an imperial. A sturdier backbone would do wonders for this beer. While that still holds, this 6% stout opened up VERY nicely. Not getting any real smokuness from the chipotle peppers, but the interplay and balance of coffee, pepper, and roasted malt was great. Smooth brew too

Ah, finally! About time I had something good tonight, thanks at Rachelle for the bottle.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Tight speckled lacing graces the sides of the glass.
The smell had a bold blast of roasty robust coffee bean backed up by a light chipotle /peppery heat - quite enjoyable.
The taste was really balanced well between the coffee and the chipotle heat.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. Decent dry texture pervades nicely with the heat settling in underneath.
Overall, good stout with chipotle heat adding a nice complexity. Would have again if I could get it.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
22 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Black with half a finger or so of light tan head. Aromas of coffee, light chipotles, caramel, light vanilla. Tastes of dark chocolate, coffee, light chipotles, some sort of lactose like note that I’m not digging. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Medium carbonation, semi-watery mouthfeel. Not quite there for me.

Almost black with a small creamy head. Roasted with coffee, chocolate, some smoke and light chili. Smooth and actually quite easy to drink. A good one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared with Zach over some wings, pours a dark rich black pour with a java colored head. Nose is malt and dark roasted coffee. Taste is malt and peppery and very drinkable. Not a heavy stout at all. Finish is peppery as well and ends on the same tasting notes. Descent by all means. Quaff Score 8 / 10

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep brown in colour with a thin beige head, light lacing. The aroma is of coffee, light spice, chocolate and dark malts. The flavour is of coffee, chocolate, light peppers, chalky. Malty mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with some light pepper heat at the very end. Nice stuff. The peppers take a back seat. Good base stout helps.

22 oz bottle sampled in November 2011. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate mild chipotle notes, light smoke with only a mild peppery heat. Thin mouthfeel takes away even more. Forgettable.
