Imagine an Arrogant Bastard with more citrusy hops and less biscuity malts. You get a strong hop profile, and along with that.. more bitterness. The hop acids and oils give you a slippery and lingering enjoyable bitter taste, that even after a while linger on your tongue. (VERY NICE) This beer definitely goes for the hoppy side of beers, but didn’t leave any love for the malt side even though you’d think it would based on the fact that it’s a brown IPA. The malt has a hint of sweetness but I think it needs more melaniodins to really emerge among the hoppiness.

Pours an amber red color. Aroma is their but minimal. Plenty of hop bitterness but it is muddled to me. Strong but not satisfying. Just not a balanced brew.

Tap at Eureka Burger. Rating #7. Real dark pour, amber/red with a tan head. Very floral, lots of citrus and pine, just real aromatic. Medium bitterness and more citrus with kind of a light herbal thing, pretty potent flavor, real nice. (1679)

On tap at the infamous brewery. Pours out a dark golden amber which produced little head. Aromas of hops and malts. Good hop tastes but lacking the complexity of the best of this style. Enjoyable and drinkable.

Appearance: Pours a dark translucent copper with a creamy 1/2 inch retaining head. Aroma: Red berry, cocoa powder, chewable medicine. Taste: Bitter hops, red berry, cocoa powder. Lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied active carbonation. Overall: I like the bitterness, but I didn’t appreciate the fruitiness.

A: The beer pours an opaque brown-amber color with a couple fingers of off-white head and some mild lacing. S: A nice hoppy nose on this one with plenty of grapefruit and tangerine aroma. Quite a lot of resinous pine here too. The malt is there and is nicely toasty with a bit of a roasted malt smell. T: Unfortunately, the hop flavors aren’t quite there. The beer is strong on the bittering hops, but the citrus and fruit qualities don’t translate to the palate. A bit of grapefruit flavor and some grass is about it. A nice roasted quality that makes this sort of like a black IPA (whatever you call it). M: The body is medium with a lively carbonation and a bitter finish. D: I wish this one had some more hop flavor to it. Hopefully this one gets brewed again soon and there’s a bit of tweaking to the hop schedule.
