Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, candied orange, earthiness and light toffee. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of caramel, candied orange, pink grapefruit, light earthiness and light toffee with a smooth lingering candied orange finish.

Keg at the Commons Ale House, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Orange amber with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is pretty hop forward for a barley wine, bitter tropicana, barley sugar, grapefruit, caramel, if I didn’t know this was being classed as a barley wine I’d have guessed it was a big ballsy double or triple IPA! Taste follows a similar line, sweet licks, caramel, grapefruit, pine, bitter orange, spice, light booze. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light dryness in the close with a lick of booze. Decent enough hoppy barley wine (its a TIPA really !)

Bottle:   Reddish caramel, thin sudsy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Candied citrus peel, caramel, and strong citrusy bits on the nose.   Smells very much like an American style Barley Wine.   Sweet caramel and citrusy notes on the tongue.   Not overly hoppy, nor overly malty.   Seems a decent balance between malts and hops.   Big citrusy and caramel notes on the tongue.   This is a citrus based Barley Wine, pith and peel, but on the sweet side.   Not too heavy, moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Big candied citrus peel and pith on the finish.   Candied, but also a bit bright/young.   Green like bitterness/maltiness on the finish.   Solid example, sweet and citrusy, as well as candied.   A good American style Barley Wine.

Bottle from reddit trade. Pours a beautiful cloudy amber with a nice off white head that fades but leaves very light and broken lacing. Aromas are big resin hops and then some light toffee and caramel that are almost invisible to the nose. Taste is much more balanced than the aroma; citrus and pine start then a big dose of toffee and caramel malts then some booze and finally a bitter, hoppy aftertaste that also carries a line of sweet burnt sugar maltiness. Palate is just a little thin but that could be due to my tongue assuming an 11% beer would be a little heavier from the alcohol. Overall, this is a really good example of an American Barley Wine, in fact it’s my favorite American Barley Wine now,

22oz bottle courtesy of womencantsail. Thanks! A: Almost a ruby-red color with shades of brown. Thin creme head. Not too sticky against the glass. N: Deep whiffs of toffee, pineapple, mango, and caramel. Some vanilla. Very tropical. Smell sticky and it’s very much on the sweet side. T: Wow. Lots more of the pineapple and mango. Caramel sweetness. Has a bitter base to balance. Almost ashen at the base without the disgusting nature of the tray. Very biscuity and some vanilla. M: Sticky with a medium mouthfeel. Right in range, I would say. O: An all around excellent beer, and one I’d heartily recommend if you favor the tropical sweetness factors.

Bottle. Brown with white head. Big aroma, resinous pine, grapefruit and caramel. Similar flavours, hops are a little less pronounced. Sweet with a clean finish. Nice

Bottle, approximately a month old. Pours a deep orange with khaki head that billows up on an aggressive pour. Aroma is west coast hop, tropical fruit, sweet. Taste is Knuckle Sandwich with a higher malt profile and a bit bigger in every aspect. Sweeter than Knuckle Sandwich but would have liked to try this one on tap fresh as it would seem that the hops would be even more in your face. Overall, I wouldn’t call this a barleywine at this point. Possibly as the hops fade it would go that direction. If Knuckle Sandwich is to Pliny the Elder then Galaxian is to Pliny the Younger. "Triple IPA"?
