Bottle. Aroma has notes of ripe fruit & hops. Beautiful pour, cloudy rusty orange with wispy white head and slightly lacing. Flavor is full of malt, fruitiness & hops. Long lasting finish.

Appearance: Pours a dark amber with no head and just a few swirls appear when looking down.

Aroma: Fruity notes(cherry, apple grape), Turbinado sugar, and a little alcohol.

Taste: Caramel, burnt sugar, dates, dried mango. Bitter hops. Very tropical like Knuckle Sandwich!

Mouthfeel: Full bodied. From growler, so the carbonation was a little on the high side. It mellowed out when I let me glass warm up.

Overall: A really tasty west coast barleywine. I would only consider drinking this fresh personally. It’s very close to the highly acclaimed Knuckle Sandwich, so if you like that, you will love this.

The beer is a dark amber color with a khaki colored head. Intense fruit aroma to this. Lots of citrus notes as well as some dark fruit such as raisin and black cherry. Quite a bit of caramel and toffee notes with a hint of brown sugar. The flavor has a moderate pine and citrus peel bitterness with good grapefruit flavor. A strong malt backbone of toffee and caramel with more of the sweet dark fruits that were present on the nose.

27 jan 2011, tap at the brewery. Really dark apricot, light but brown. Nose is spruce hops and a twinge of caramel malt and alcohol. Not at all what I expect from a Barleywine, even a hoppy one. Med/thin body and a bit fizzy. Spruce hops, very sappy, bitterness is tempered by a light sweetness. Not what I’d call a Barleywine but nice.
