3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of a kind soul at the Tampa Weekly Tasting. Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, slight earthy peppers, chocolates, and earth. Flavor is similar- roast, chocolate, peppers, and earth with coffee. Medium in body and interesting overall.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark black with no head. Aroma of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste follows. Not bad, there is an off taste there that turns me off. Not my favorite.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draught at the brewery with RBSG. Opaque black liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, oak, bourbon, deep chili, pumpernickel and some licorice. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of bourbon, chocolate and light chili. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Nice stuff.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at the brewery. Bigger pepper and coffee character compared to the Brandy barrel aged version, though not as smooth and creamy. Still a nice beer, though for me the additives were a bit much.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Bottle. Perfect aroma. Has chocolate milk, bourbon, wood, smoke, hints of bacon. My only complaint on the opaque black brown appearance is the head is fairly thin (possibly I effed up the pour in my excitement to drink it). The flavors are incredible and change as the beer warms. It starts off as mostly coffee, bacon, smoke and chocolate with some spice. As it warms the bourbon and spice become more apparent. The finish goes on and on and on... It’s coffee, spice, chocolate, bourbon, wood, bacon... And orgy of flavors - I’m bitter I have only one more bottle!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 2, 2012 22 oz bottle. Strong bourbon nose with some maple overpowering all else. Pours a jet black with no head at all. Flavor is smoke, black licorice, coffee, and booze before finishing with some bite from the chipotle peppers. Pretty heavy stuff, par for the course from an imperial, Chiefbeer12 is getting my second bottle.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
27 apr 2012, bottle. Black and slightly oily and thick. Nose is licorice, meaty, tobacco juice. Maybe some beef jerky. Med body and a tad fuzzy. Sweet, mOlases, maple syrup, faint coffee grounds. Maybe some smoky bits. Really nice. Coffee and smoke are soft not aggressive. Sugar and alcohol are bigger and dominate. Very nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is pitch black with almost no head, just a few scattered brown bubbles.
S: Tons and tons of coffee on the nose that really dominates most of the aroma. Once you get past the coffee, there is a nice earthy spice and smokey to the beer, presumably from the chipotles and the addition of smoked malts.
T: The flavor is really quite nice, too. The coffee is not quite as pronounced, but certainly still there. Some mild chocolate sweetness in the middle of the tongue followed by a definite peppery and earthy quality. The heat doesn’t really come until the very finish where it lingers on the tongue and throat.
M: The body is medium with a low, but smooth carbonation.
D: I’m not the biggest chile beer fan, but this was really great. Fairly complex and the coffee character was just great. I hope they re-make this.
