Growler shared at Woodshop 5.0. Pours a clear dark gold/bronze color with a light tan head. Aroma starts out with deep sweet fruitiness but then melds into a huge solvent note. Sharp woody acidity comes through in the smell in taste, with sour fruits and a solid amount of sweeter malts to back it up. Very weird beer.

A: The pour is a slightly muddled dark brown color with just about no head to speak of.
S: A light lactic tartness is obvious up-front, followed by a strong bourbon and barrel character. The charred oak, vanilla, and alcohol come through with a bit of dark fruits on the back end.
T: The bourbon qualities are very apparent in the flavor profile. A strong sweetness from caramel malts and the vanilla from the barrel. A nice oak and char note with only a mild sourness on the finish. One unfortunate aspect of the beer is the noticeable alcohol taste.
M: The body is medium with a moderate to high level of carbonation and some alcohol warmth.
D: Not the best sour I’ve come across, likely because of the strong bourbon and alcohol presence.

Sample from a growler @ Woodshop. Pretty much your standard Amber Ale. Pours a mostly clear reddish brown with a wispy off white head. Nose held faint hops with some cereal grains. Flavor was off dry with some lightly toasted malts and light hop bitterness on the finish.

On tap at Beachwood. I really dug this one alot. Color was amber to auburn. Aroam of wood, bourbon, dough, alcohol with not much sour or funk. Flavor was great; cookie dough, bread, fruit with some sour notes. A dry finish. This one was a great surprise.

The last of the keg. Pours with a tan head and a amber body. Aroma of bourbon, oak, tartness and brett. Taste is wood, vanilla, brown sugar and a light funk. Light bubbles. Not bad, would like to try more.

Bootlegger’s Kentucky Wild 7/4/09 (on tap at brewery. For a neighborhood brewery, making a “wild” ale is a step in the progressive direction. Pours gold with a small head. Aroma is of funk, dried citrus fruit, and acidity. Flavor starts off funky yet sweet, then moves towards wood, funk-tartness and hay. Solid offering with enough variety in flavor to keep it interesting.

On tap at the brewery, this is a bourbon barrel aged amber ale...
The bourbon barrel imparted some vanilla and some sourness on the beer. Interesting experiment, but for the time spent in the barrel, I’d hope for more complexity.
