Brewed in the tradition of a Foreign Extra Stout, this ale combines dark malts which release hints of roasted barley and chocolate flavors and aroma.

Draft at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a fizzy beige head. Smells like burnt toast, chocolate malt, earthy and woody malt with light ash. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Tastes like burnt toast, chocolate malt, and bitter roasted coffee.

Tap at Mtn Sun. Pours very dark brown with quickly settling tan head, thin lace. Aroma is roasted and toffee malt, fairly sweet, mild chocolate, smoke and hops. Flavor is roasted, toasted, dark malt, mildly smoky and hoppy finish. Surprised by the hoppiness, expected it to be sweeter, actually has some balance to it. Moderate carbonation and medium body.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (chocolate syrup / cocoa powder, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. A very plain, simple rendition. Very little going on in the aroma other than chocolate/vanilla, and a touch on the syrupy sweet side.

Tap @ Bootstrap. Pours a dark brown appearance with a light brown head. A touch buttery, caramel, toffee, a touch smoky aroma. Caramel, light butterscotch, burnt smoky malty, coffee, light anise flavor. Ok.
