Cloudy golden pour with a medium white head. Pleasant aroma of honey, hops and yeast. Good flavor of honey, hops and yeast with a mild bitter finish, there’s something a bit harsh in the end though. The body is medium with an oily texture and moderate carbonation.

(Rating #4045)

Dirty dark golden ale with brownish yeast volatile sediments and a fading white foam. Bee wax, quite toasty french toast like malts and not particularly fresh, but highly floral honey aromas make for a dense, mealy tripel loaded with cereals and doughy breadiness. Rather desserty, very sweet example of a tripel with eggy sulphury hints that are not unpleasant and agreeable flowery notions, but very limited drinkability, both because of its heaviness and because of its highly sedimented, exagerated yeast presence. I like my strong blonde beers to be nice apperitives, but they need a bit more airy lightness and fresh flavours than here. A pretty heavy tripel that feels like more sugars and less malts would be welcome to lighten up the body, yet it is already fairly strong, not only in numbers, but in that the alcohol is more than noticeable. More carbonation may also be helpful in lightening the impression and providing a tarter bite.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of sweet Belgian malt base with light peppery yeast notes and light honey notes also discernable. Taste is also a nice mix between some floral notes and some light peppery yeast with a semi-sweet Belgian malt backbone. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not the best the style has to offer but still well brewed and quite enjoyable.

Bottle - 500ml. Beautiful dark gold cloudy body with a huge white foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with grainy and honeyish hints. Taste carries flowery, yeasty, and honeyish notes and ends with a decent, warming bittersweet finish. Well done.

My Bottom Line :
Doughy and estery yeast flavors are followed by honey and orange-y fruitiness in this effervescent and rough Tripel.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy amber. Yeast sediment is important; be careful when pouring.
-Malts offer some toasted character, but the honey’s sweetness tends to overshadow the base malt’s potential elegance.
-A touch of alcohol is felt in the back.
-This is pleasant strong ale, but it needs some refinement; the obvious yeast character and the added honey are not perfectly cohesive.
-Carbonation is expansive, which is expected but makes the flavor profile’s incongruities more apparent.

Bottle.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Very cloudy dirty amber with a fair, loose dirty blonde head. Aroma: Strongly floral and perfumed, more from hops than from malts, sweet and rich, fairly fruity, lots of esters, a little citrus brightness, a little alcohol, yeast, so much flowery perfume...nice and odd and forceful. Palate: Medium body, fairly full effervescence, a few sharp bubbles. Flav.: Like the nose, there is a great cacophony of flowers, perfume, rich sweet honey, esters, a touch of brightness, fruitiness, a little yeast and a bit of alcohol; lightly sweet with surprising bitterness and a long, perfumed, biscuity/caramel, fruity honey kinda finish.

I quite enjoyed this.
