COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

My Bottom Line :
This Spelt Saison joins minty, herbal hops to fresh, doughy yeast in a dry and effervescent mouthfeel full of floral flavors.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A lofty head of foam covers the misty amber shine.
-The aroma is quite fresh and revealing.
-The dryness and expansive carbonation make for an authentic Belgian-style mouthfeel.
-Floral notes pervade the flavor profile, seamlessly leading to a pleasant hop bitterness.
-Cereal flavors could be clearer. Some refinement is needed there.
-This is definitely better than tap versions I’ve had before. Bottle conditioning has helped greatly, but there must have been improvement elsewhere in the recipe too. Great job!

Bottle.

(110-151111/031211)

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 25NO11.

App.: Cloudy amber with a large light tan foam. Aroma: Quite tangy and sharp, peppery, fruit, light biscuit, a little earthy, a bit dirty, bitter herbs, a little brown sugar, mainly sharp, aggressive organic acids. Palate: Medium body, uneven effervescence with some sharp bubbles. Flav.: Peppery, sharp, acidic, toast, lemony, earthy, yeast, bread crust, fruitiness, messy; dry with limited bitterness and a fruity, toasted, acidic finish.

Not great.

Pours hazy-murky copper-orange. Extremely fizzy, by the looks of it. Good white head, but pretty average retention. Faint aromas of bread and cloves, with what looks like a solid malt backbone. It went a bit wrong with the taste, though : don’t exactly know what went wrong, but it felt a bit like a botched Wit and didn’t feel fresh at all. A bit overly fizzy. Not great.

Bottle: Poured a dark hazy golden color ale with a large slightly off-white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of grain and spicy yeast strain with nice floral notes is just about perfect. Taste of spicy yeast with great malt bill and dry finish is just about perfect. Body is full with good carbonation. I was expecting some kind of special grain but I never expected such a fine saison. This brewery is slowly becoming a must-try.

Bouteille 500 ml. 5.5%. Couleur ambrée-orange foncé. Arôme de levures belges, malt. En bouche, agrume, levures. Goûte la bière de Unibrous. Correct

Pours a hazy golden/orange hue with a lofty white head. Aroma is grassy and a little herbal with notes of fresh cereals and citrus. Mild spiciness up front is quickly curbed by an almost doughy yeast profile. Finishes dry with traces of grainy aromatics and a touch of that classic saison farmyard flavor. Smooth and slick on the palate owing to the bottle conditioning. Nice example of the style.

On tap at Brouhaha, cloudy amber-gold hue, with a thick white head, fresh, zesty citrusy floral hop nose coming in first, with a nice grainy, wheaty, pale, munich, toasty malt, earthy crunched spelt cereal accent, with some faint honeyed malt breadiness notes in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty bubblegum, pale, toasted, biscuity, caramel, wheaty malt, earthy, grainy cereal spelt wheat, doughy, acidic, citrus peel character with flowery, grassy, leafy hops, reminiscent of tea leaf flavours, with a spicy herbal lavender petal undertone, leading towards a spicy, herbal, acidic zestiness, faint lingering hop bittering finish.
