500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 22AU12.

App.: Deep brown-black with a large mocha foam. Aroma: Resinous/pine hops, a touch metallic, dark-roasted, almost smokey malts, a little grape juice/gum, molasses, a touch of licorice, some caramel, a touch tangy, a wee hint of brine/soy sauce, seems to be a nice blend of good stout and fair IPA. Palate: Medium body, soft, silky effervescence, smooth. Flav.: Lots of grape juice/gum, nice rich dark-roasted malts, a bit of molasses and a bit of caramel, the hops are resinous and tropical, metallic notes, a bit of coffee/dark chocolate, good; off dry with decent bitterness and a fairly long, inky, malty yet resinous/pine hop finish.

This is an example of the style that suites my palate.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep black color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and resin hops is not as powerful as I was expecting. Taste is also a good mix between some medium roasted malt with light bitterness and some medium resin hoppy notes. Body is a bit light for style with not enough of a creamy body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but I was expecting a bigger hops punch with a fuller body.

Bottle - 500ml. Pours an opaque black body with a good beige foamy head. Rich malty/hoppy aroma with chocolate, coffeeish, and caramel hints. Taste carries woody and roasted cereals notes. Some plummy notes are also niticeable. It ends with a long, sharp bitter/roasty finish. Very well done.

500 ml bottle. Pours black with a very long-lasting beige head. Smells of cream, coffee and floral hops. Tastes like chocolate, roast, coffee, sweet whipped cream. Coffee and herbal bitterness in the finish. Light to medium bodied, head makes it feel very creamy. Good black IPA.

Note: 7+/10

(Lot 1203(0)039) (266-140612)

Draught at Mondial de la Bière 2012, June 7. Pours a very dark brown with a small frothy light-brown head. Decent lacing. Aroma is malty and lightly hoppy along with some coffee notes. Flavour of roasted malt, caramel, light leafy hops and a hint of coffee. Average bodied. Pretty good stuff.
