(Rating #3269)

Draft. Pours a hazy straw golden body with a white head and poor retention. Very spicy, lavender, spices, ginger root and herbal body with a mild grassy tones. Light herbal and grass notes with a bread y body. A waxy note and a light sweetness. Okay

Mondiale 2010. Tap. Pours a hazed golden yellow with a nice fluffy white head. Aroma is big lavender and spices, grass, herbs, flowers, peppery, phenolic, light toast, cracker and bready malts. Flavor is more spices, lavender is the most dominant throughout, some strange dandelion leaf with pepper, then fruity esters and almost goes sweet to a "purple drink" character, sugary simple honey and corn syrup over cereal and toast, wheat, biscuit then grass, herbs and more spice, phenolic, wheat and a restrained yeasty doughiness. Strange beer, but not too bad. Some solvent comes out as it warms though.

This was called Saison 6 Lavande. (lavender) This was pretty much just a blonde ale that tasted just like a bouquet of lavender. Really there wasn’t much else.

Draft: Poured a medium hazy yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spices is quite intense with a domination of lavender and a dry funky finish. Taste is a flavourful mix between some lavender with light funky Brett notes with a nice wheat malt body. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Very well done with great choice of spices.

Sampled at the Mondial de la bière 2010. (saison lavande) Hazy straw, medium head good retention. Aroma is lavander, citrus, malt and coriander. Flavor is lavander, wheat, coriander, spices, tartness, very floral with a dry finish. Medium body.

My Bottom Line:
Jarfuls of spices are thrown at unsuspecting nostrils, proliferating into loud citrusy, anisey, peppery and herbal aromas and flavors for a tiresome yet somehow drinkable Witbier creation.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely a ring of foam to crown the cloudy pale orange.
-The spices thankfully appear in the nose and the beginning of each sip only; the finish is well dried out and not nearly as spicy.
-Light honeyed and biscuity cereal notes are found in the end, but those spices are so loud they might be the ones impersonating these malt flavors.
-Man, that nose is intensely spicy!

On tap at the brewpub.
