Bottled sample via lubiere, shared with oakbluff. Black in colour with fairly strong carbonation. Muted sweet chocolate aromas with a hint of charred grains. Chocolate and chalk dominate on the palate, backed by some notes of coffee, pale malt, and a hint of red grapes. Medium bodied. Not offensive in any way, but very mediocre.

Pours plain black. Seems a little ... thick. Good beige head, disappearing fast, but pretty large lace remaining for quite a while. My nose is basically blown up, so I can’t have much of a clue about that aroma (sorry!), except for those boozy and ethyllic notes. Taste is surprisingly citrusy for a beer which isn’t a BIPA and still possess some good notes of dark fruits as well. Strong coffee taste. Finish is bitter and quite long. Sticky. Good stuff, really. Price -- 5,79 for a 500ml from Peluso is surprisingly good as well.

Bouteille 500ml.

500ml bottle. First thoughts: "Wow, I’ve never seen or heard about this beer and it’s my favorite style: let’s buy two". "1 Percentile on ratebeer? WTF?!" First impression: "this is meanly rated; this is quite balanced and pleasant". Second impression (second bottle in fact): "some notes in the taste are displeasing: strong fruit notes, black licorice and even rubber." "The IBU might be high, the hoppiness is not so clever as it lacks deepness in mouth". Second thoughts: "Not as bad as 1 pctl might suggest." But "I’ll avoid that one in the future". As you might have guessed, I was talking out loud to my self earlier today and I kind of find that disturbing... In fact it was right after I had this beer. When black witchcraft is done wrong...

(Rating #3657)

MartinT (7677) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 10, 2011
My Bottom Line:
This brash Imperial Stout’s fruity, tart edges clash with assertive roasted malts, leading to an unrefined bitterness where green Québécois malts, leafy hops and more roastiness battle for supremacy.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is plenty of foam to cover the pure blackness.
-The mouthfeel is pleasant, but a tad overcarbonated for the level of residual sugars and intensity of the finish. A mineral twang appears in the finish, perhaps because of this exuberant carbonation.
-The body is healthy; not too sweet, not too thin.
-Vinous, fruity angles disagree with the prevalent roastiness.
-The grain bill lacks smoothness to really make this enjoyable. Don’t know if Québécois barley malt is the culprit, but it sure tends to give that effect to a lot of brews...

Bottle.
