2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 chriso (7063) - London, - SEP 2, 2011
From polycask at Great British Beer Festival, day 3, on 4 August 2011. A producer I know next to nothing about. Murky yellow colour. Ashton Bitter is a "bittersweet" cider apple variety raised at Long Ashton Research Centre in 1947. Here it has produced a fairly dry cider with a good whack of tannin of the palate but not a lot of fruity character and not much farmyard funk. This leaves it feeling a little austere. Also quite sulphurous in the aroma. OK but didn’t quite hit the spot for me. Perhaps it’s just an apple variety that is better used in a blend than in a single varietal.

A little meaty. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Faint warming finish, light funk, light sugar, dry must, faint apples. Meh.
